Time To Shine Tutoring Description

My names Pamela I have been working as a teaching Assistant in a local Primary school for 14 years, day to day I run a variety of literacy intervention programs in the school setting. I enjoy working with a pupils one-on-one, and groups.
We know that every child develops on a different learning curve, which is why the tutoring process is so crucial. Working individually with a child can help them overcome some of the frustration and confusion that comes along with learning in a crowded classroom. I have a great amount of patience and understanding to help the child develop his own learning style and guide him to work through the problems at his own pace to ensure that he truly understands the material. Learning is a step by step process and I know that I can guide each child through the steps they need to take to complete any and all challenges they may face, not just in school, but in life.
I'm firstly looking to see if there is any interest in my local area, please feel free to message me.

Today I am working with a child who needs encouragement with using full sentences when speaking and telling instructions for something. e.g. recipe, brushing your teeth etc. Children are very easily excitable. When they are excited and interested in something they absorb more. They learn without realising. So they are learning language skills, matched with something they like to do, this is a great way to help them improve their skills without them realising it. Today I am w...orking with Sonny who is very keen to cook. Lots of new words were learned today I laid out ingredients and utensils and Sonny had to tell me, what ingredients we needed? what utensils should we use? and how do we make the pizza? Cooking teaches children valuable skills
Motor Skills: Grating, mixing, kneading and cutting with a child-friendly knife.
Mathematical Skills: Number recognition, basic sums, and practising weights and measures
Reading and Comprehension: Reading the recipe and answering questions such as: How do you think the food will look? Taste? Smell? Etc.
Time and Measure: Telling and measuring time. Setting the timer.
Cooking helps children’s personal, social and emotional development by providing opportunities for exploration, developing skills and confidence. Cooking can be difficult, so children feel a sense of pride and satisfaction when they eat or take home what they have made. Cooking definitely supports children’s developing communication, language and literacy as they talk about what they are doing and collaborate with others Sonny had to explain to me the precise instructions, he had to talk to organise, order and clarify what he will be doing. In following the recipe. Sonny is learning how to select and retrieve information from the packet mix he was reading. Sonny was able to talk about and evaluate what he had made.

National tests are here again! It is important to help your child get ready for the tests. Why not book a six-week block session where I can help your child learn techniques and ways to apply new skills to tackle test style questions. Reading tests are made up of short questions to check how well the text has been understood and other questions aim to find out if children are able to make judgements about what they are reading. There are two kinds of numeracy tests procedural test which measures skills in things like numbers, measuring and data. Reasoning test which measures how well children can use what they know to solve everyday problems. Below is some example past papers for years 2 to 6.

Maths Tricks!

Learning how to tell the time can be tricky business, my learner is a year 3 pupil, and all year 3 pupils must be able to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes on an analogue clock, and calculate how long it is to the next hour. I have been teaching Alex time over a few sessions. At first Alex was less confident, but as the sessions went on Alex progressed and became more and more confident. Alex and I looked and talked about parts of the clock, we looked at the clock face ...and I helped Alex to recognise the hour and minute hands on the clock. We also looked at past and to. Everything is always reinforced in every session! In different sessions we worked on O'clock, half past, quater past and quater to then went onto counting in 5's. Alex knew her 5 times tables. Which was a bonus. This helped with the next stage telling the time in 5 minute intervals. Alex and I played lots of 'Time' games ( bingo) this reinforced what she already has learned. We did lots of practical activities, each session Alex became confident in telling the time. Our last session of 'Time' today. We went through everything that Alex already has learned. I am pleased to say Alex can tell the time on an analogue clock. She was awarded with a certificate and a watch welldone Alex. All children learn at their own pace, it is important to make the sessions fun and enjoyable. Contact me for a free consultation.
