Great. Would get 5* if you could drive to your pitch to unload. If only on arrival and departure.

What can I say, we LOVED our stay! A lovely long weekend in a beautiful tent in a stunning location and our three children did not once ask to watch TV or say they missed the Playstation etc. It was everything we wanted. The tents. cooking area are all beautiful and really well kept. We also ate in the Dutch barn one evening and also for breakfast and the food is delicious! Excellent portion sizes and delicious and fresh. John and Soo are wonderful hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. We also went of the walk provided on their very helpful map and found the secret waterfall, our children loved playing in the water and as the walk is so beautiful didn't once ask if they could stop walking, we managed to walk 7 miles without any moaning!! And finally, as regular campers I have to say the toilet and shower facilities are superb! Clean, spacious and everything you need. A lovely get away for us all! Thank you!

Beautiful setting, lovely hosts, loads of space and everything you need for camping ready to go with the option of your cooking done for you if you want... not to mention the best and cleanest toilets and showers (free and hot!) of any camp site I've ever seen by a long way. As seasoned campers we wanted to sample a bit of luxury with glamping and Top of the Woods delivered in bucket loads. Please roll with the festival idea Soo!

Had a wonderful weekend at Top of the Woods at the beginning of September catching up with some old friends who we’d not seen for a few years. The place is set in the most beautiful scenery and is just magical! When we drove into the site and made our way to the Dutch Barn, which is the communal area, we were met with the vision of people sitting at long tables eating, drinking, kids playing badminton, cool music, all under twinkly lights. My initial thought was ‘this isn’t like any other campsite I’ve been to before’.

We (a family of 4) stayed in a safari tent for the weekend which was super comfortable. A lot of thought and effort has clearly been put into kitting these tents out. The beds have feather duvets and woollen blankets and the furniture (kitchen, tables and chairs) had been made by a friend of Jon and Soo’s from locally-sourced wood. My son said the tent was better than our living room!

When booking we opted for the Friday Night Stew and the Saturday Night BBQ and when we go again next year will absolutely do the same. My wife and I are both non-meat eaters and the vegetarian options were super tasty. We had vegetable stew with home-made dumplings on Friday, and home-made veggie burgers and halloumi / vegetable skewers on Saturday. Meat-eaters were provided with ethically sourced products and all was accompanied by some great side dishes. I did comment to Jon and Soo that if they didn’t run a campsite they could absolutely open a café.

A few beers round the fire followed and then a great night’s sleep under I think the best duvet I’ve ever experienced.

Saturday we had a bit of rain so drove into Cardigan (about 15 minutes) which is a lovely little town. There’s a great selection of independent shops, cafés and restaurants and wonderful, very new-looking arts centre. Went to the cinema, had a look around the shop and then back to Top of the Woods for the evening gathering. After food we sat around a communal fire in the Dutch Barn and chatted to some really nice fellow campers.

Before leaving on Sunday we spent a few hours with John, the bushcraft guy, which I would absolutely recommend. We walked some of the trails near the site and learned so much about how nature provides a wealth of resources. John is incredibly knowledgeable and has clearly spent years accumulating this. Adults and kids alike were fascinated, with the highlight being shown how to make fire with flint and steel.

Throughout the stay Jon and Soo were wonderful hosts, who seem to be able to combine being pretty busy with being super friendly and helpful. Before we left my daughter asked if we could come back and I can see us returning to this great place year after year. There were actually people staying when we were there who’d returned with their families within the same summer.

Staying at Top of the Woods seems like going to camp at your friend’s house, and meeting some of their friends that you don’t know, but it’s just that they’ve got a massive back garden.

Stayed here a few weeks ago with some mates and absolutely loved it. It's a beautiful area that's peaceful and laid back, exactly what we wanted. The owners John and Sue are very friendly and helpful too. Really recommend this place, will most definitely be going back at some point soon!
