About Trevor Head: Training In Musical Instrument Repair

Welcome to the official Facebook page of Trevor Head: Training in Musical Instrument Repair.

Brass and woodwind instrument repair courses based at Llangunllo School, Knighton, Powys: The School in the hills (est. 1985)

Trevor Head: Training In Musical Instrument Repair Description

Courses run from March to November and are from two to five days' duration. We cater for a range of abilities and experience, and offer courses from Foundation to Advanced levels.

Overseas students are always welcome and many attend from as far away as China, Australia, Japan, Africa and all over Europe. Fluency in English is not essential as our workshop sessions are mainly practical and translation software is available if required. Many of our students are now running their own successful repair businesses in the UK and other parts of the world.

The school is situated in a beautiful Mid-Wales location within easy reach of some of the most dramatic landscapes in Wales. We are close to the centre of the unspoilt village of Llangunllo and within easy walking distance of the Greyhound Inn.

Our tutors are experienced professionals and, with small group sizes, are able to spend a lot of time with individual students. Excellent learning facilities, ease of access by air, rail and road, plentiful local accommodation, home-cooked lunches from the school kitchen – all contribute to making a course at Llangunllo School a most rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Students initially visit the school for instrument repair training but they return for Trevor's cooking! Here is Trevor with some Welsh cakes during the last Woodwind foundation course. It's safe to say that all work promptly ground to a halt only a moment after this picture was taken. Secure your place on an upcoming course and rest assured that you will learn a lot and be very well fed. (Picture courtesy of Hugo Gama)

We welcome and encourage former students to share feedback, photos and anecdotes relating to your time here at the school.

Went to see Trevor almost 12 years ago for his Brass Repair Course. Business is still going strong so I must have learnt something worthwhile. Keep up the good work!

Spent a fantastic week with Gary and Trevor learning about woodwind repair. The course was well-run and organised and Gary's teaching method worked well with the diverse group of pupils. Trevor's cooking was excellent and kept us going through each day. I've come away having learnt lots that I will find useful as a woodwind teacher- Thanks all!

Ruti and I participated in a summer woodwinds foundation course with Gary Mills and Trevor on the excellent hospitality and special sessions on silver coating. The workshop was excellently tooled and the instruction was expert and personal. We are vegetarians and Trevor went out of his way to provide us with a diverse and absolutely delicious plant-based meals every day, in addition to the regular feasts he was generating for the rest of the class. We are so very grateful for having this opportunity to receive so much knowledge in such as concise and practical framework, in Trevor's lovely school.

Had a great time at the school a few years back training with Gary and like Dick I now have a business going from strength to strength. I love my job and have been friends with Gary ever since. Including being in the same band for a few years and bending his ear for advise every so often. Great place to learn and great people to learn from. Trevor has an amazing venue and is so welcoming.
