V21 are planning to expand our cafe project, Gegin Fach. This includes the seating area and the kitchen. Gegin Fach is located in Sbectrwm Community Centre, and with a bigger space, we will be able to accommodate more training placements, provide a better experience for our customers and increase our community engagement and activities.

ICT student Sarah is trying out the newest piece of kit, a micro:bit. It is used for programming and Sarah had great fun working out programmes, including those that would turn lights on and off and create an electronic dice. Staff are sure this new kit will motivate others to experiment with coding.
The National Garden Scheme gives visitors unique access to over 3,500 exceptional private gardens in England and Wales, and raises impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake.
Fairwater Community Garden are part of the scheme this year, pop by and visit them 4th – 5th of June. The garden features flower borders, mature fig and cherry trees, an espaliered apple tree and a large kiwi. There is a vegetable garden, circular herb ...garden, wildlife pond, large greenhouse and poly tunnel.

Office Skills trainee Laura wanted to raise money for the Office Skills Project. She asked if she could set up a sales table in Reception and very kindly donated a lot of her own pre-loved jewellery to sell.
She decided on how much to charge, made a poster advertising the prices and set out the jewellery to display it nicely. She sold the jewellery, took the money and gave change.
So far she has raised £73.00. Well done Laura! Thank you for your generosity and for thinking of Office Skills!
This week The Oaks have been working on hanging baskets,bizzie bags and there is now lots of stock coming up from the lower polly tunnel. The tomatoes are looking very good and all variaties are £1.00. Runner beans have been sown and will be ready in a couple of weeks,with some nice weather!
Office Skills trainees have been looking at the different types of drinks they enjoy. After having a chat the Thursday group researched the amount of sugar in popular soft drinks and beverages and used the internet to carry out their research.
They all created their own PowerPoint Presentation with their findings and a video on the effects of sugary drinks on teeth. The trainees carried out an experiment with two old, dirty pennies putting one in cola and one in washing up l...iquid, for a couple of hours, to see which one would be the shiniest. They also counted out the number of teaspoons of sugar into a glass to see the amount that was in each drink they researched.
An energy drink contains 21 teaspoons of sugar and the shiniest penny was the one which had been in cola!
Each trainee gave a presentation to the ICT project during the afternoon lesson. Both ICT and Office Skills trainees and staff were shocked by their findings and the videos they showed!

Hey Clay! is a national celebration of clay - giving everyone the chance to unleash their inner potter. This is done by venues offering free participation events with clay over the course of the weekend of 17 – 19 May 2019 as part of the Get Creative festival (which runs 11 – 19th May).
10am-2pm on Saturday 18th May- will give visitors the opportunity to try throwing skills offering free sessions on our potter’s wheel.
There will also be a chance to purchase items made by our... trainees.
People of all ages and all abilities are welcome.

The Paper Shed Project has been busy trying out a new craft. Take a look at their needle felt friends!
The Oaks have now started to make the planters and hanging baskets, these will be ready for from may onwards. Please let your friends know where we are . We are looking forward to seeing our regular customers and hopefully some new ones. Our trainees and volunteers have worked so hard and the quality of the stock is amazing.

Office Skills Trainees Cassim, Justine and Ryan worked exceptionally hard Friday to send out the School Holiday Club flyers and letters to school across Cardiff, Newport and Barry. They had a deadline of the end of today to print, guillotine and count the flyers, type up the letter and send out the letters and flyers!
Well done everyone you worked really hard!
