Maesteg, Cwm Llynfi, Llynfi Valley. Just off junction 36 of the M4, A4063. A former welsh mining valley, in the heart of South Wales, UK.
Maesteg, translated into English is, Fairfield. Maesteg can be traced back to 1820`s, where the Maesteg Iron works and the Llynvi tram way (railway) started between Maesteg and Porthcawl. see video. Iron eventually gave way to Coal, the black gold, which eventually closed in the early 1980`s.

The welsh national anthem was first publicly sung in Maesteg, 1856, see the plaque on the photos.
The former Iron Works is now Maesteg sports centre. The town has an attractive welfare park, just off Neath Road, where there is a bowling green, tennis courts and playing fields as well as a children`s park. The valley has many playing fields and parks, for sports and activities.

The River Llynfi originates above Caerau, running and twisting through the heart of the valley, Nantyffyllon, Maesteg, Garth, Cwmfelin, Llangynwyd, passing Coytrahen to Ynysawdre, where it meets the River Ogmore, running through Bridgend and out to the coast at Ogmore-by-sea, as the River Ogmore.

There is a new BMX park at Caerau, which can be accessed by the new community cycle and Walk Route 885, where you can admire the scenic views of the valley, see the photos.

There are " Llynfi Valley Walks ", (rights of way network), that have been published and are Free, available at Maesteg Town Council and Maesteg Library, Sports Centre, as well as Bowrington Arcade, the walks are way marked with the four sevens logo ; 7777, (parish), around the Llynfi Valley, with interesting write ups of the local history and points of interest.

The valley also offers Heritage Walks, Dyffryn Llynfi & Porthcawl Railway Trail, Coytrahen Heritage Walk, Maesteg Town Centre Trail, Maesteg Iron Works Trail, and the Llangynwyd Village Trail. A Maesteg town guide available at Maesteg Council Office, full of local information.

Maesteg Town has an indoor and outdoor market, shops, swimming pool, sports centre, Town Hall, golf course, choirs`, many local groups on face book; such as the Historical Society, Memories of Maesteg, Maesteg Market, Maesteg Town Hall, etc. . There are chapels and churches, café`s, and pubs, fish & chip shops, Chinese, Indian and Cantonese foods, light industry, and much more. . .

A good public bus service to the valley from both Cardiff and Swansea, routes X7, X3, and from Bridgend Route 70 & 71.
By road, take Junction 36 , M4, onto the A4063 to Maesteg, follow the brown tourist signs Llynfi Valley / Cwm Llynfi. . . . where there is a "FREE" public car park covered by CCTV, and a new public toilet at Llynfi Road, . . . .
