Waterstones

This morning, one of the wettest of the season, I purchased a book (£25) and, having paid by credit card, asked if I might have a piece of paper - any old paper - to protect it from the rain, by then torrential, while I dashed to my car. (I was not even wearing a coat.) Instead I was offered a carrier bag which, as requiired, would cost me 5p. I explained that I had no change, indeed no money at all, on my person, but . . . out into the rain I and my purchase were dispatched all the same. Having shunned amazon and on-line booksellers in the past, I am now minded to give them my custom: at least their merchandise arrives pre-packaged - and dry.

This is a Waterstones, meaning decently priced books and other bits and bobs. There is nothing special about this store, it serves its function perfectly well.

Always nice to still have a book ago instead of ebooks all the time.
