Three Cyclists from South Wales are riding from Florida to New York (#FLORK2020) in support of the Velindre Cancer Care (UK) and Mount Sinai (USA)
Jeff Greenidge, supported by two other cyclists Chris Daniel and Rob Tomsa, all from South Wales will ride through 11 states covering nearly 2,000 miles in memory of Jeff’s brother Tony Greenidge who passed away in 2018 from Multiple Myeloma bone cancer
... Jeff says: “Despite being a novice cyclist, the challenge of completing the 2,000 miles will be such an achievement and knowing what we raise will be going to such a great cause, makes it all worthwhile”.
Money raised will be split to support both Velindre (UK) and the Mount Sinai Health System (USA) as they have all been touched by the support given by these two organisations 3000 miles apart but both redefining the practice of modern medicine and care both in the local community and across the world. Jeff experienced the treatment and care during his brother’s illness in New York and Chris’s wife Rita was supported in her illness by Velindre.
Jeff says “My brother Tony passed away from Multiple Myeloma in April 2018. He was renowned for being career oriented, taking pride in his profession as Project Executive with Johnson Control and Schneider Electric in 2016. I didn’t realise the extent of his experience and influence until one day he said that his initials were on the ceiling of JFK airport. I then realised that he instrumental in projects such as Memorial Sloan Kettering, Harlem Hospital’s New Patient Pavilion, 911 Memorial, JFK Airport and many more iconic buildings in New York. Tony loved his career, his co-workers but most of all, his family meant the world to him. We used to drive from NY to Florida and always talked about cycling that route. So in April 2020 I am cycling from Florida to New York 2000 with my two friends from Wales”. Chris Says 'I was doing this challenge for Jeff, until I discovered that Tony was working in New York on 9/11, and that he tried to get back to his work mates caught up in the Twin Towers. His story really resonated with me, so now I want to ride for Tony and I hope you will feel the same and show your support by joining us on route or by donating.'
