So many negative comments about this surgery. It's underfunded, by the Tories, same as the rest of the NHS. But because everyone in Barry has managed to delude themselves into thinking that they're middle class, and voted the Tories in, that's what you get. When the NHS fails, I have no doubt that the same people will blame the NHS, not 'Austerity', which is just a Tory excuse for the cuts that they will always bring. Under the Tories, austerity won't end, they are anti public spending regardless of the state of the economy.

I have been registered with this practice for many years and I find the GP's nurses and reception staff very helpful. Even though the practice is busy they always do their best to help.

I have always had great service from the surgery, like most surgeries they are busy but they will always try their best to help.

Once you get an appointment the doctors are great but I've had numerous issues getting correct prescriptions on time resulting in sometimes 4 visits in one week resulting in still not getting the medication I rely on to stay alive!

Awful experience and that was just the registration process!!!
I really think that the reception staff would benefit from some customer service training. I recently registered at the surgery and encountered unnecessary rudeness from 2 receptionists. I was glared at whilst one receptionist who could clearly see I was there completely ignored me. After 5 minutes, I asked for assistance and she sighed as if it was too much trouble and reluctantly handed me registration forms. When I returned the forms a few days later, another receptionist also ignored me for a few minutes and rather than asking if she could help me she rudely asked me how I'd got in. My teenage daughter attempted to get an appointment and she was told 'it wouldn't kill her to wait another day' by another receptionist! She was feeling very ill and was so upset that she left the surgery in tears. I am disgusted at this rudeness and I made the decision to register with another surgery. The receptionist there couldn't have been more helpful. I really wish I'd read these google reviews before registering with West Quay surgery!

Yes it's difficult to get through, but once you do the doctors and staff are very good and I have found their service kind and considrate. So many people using the service no wonder there is an overload.

very bad customer service from the receptionist call Lindsey who refused my girlfriend her an appointment after being 5 minutes late. The reason for being late is she struggles to walk without pain! She explained this whilst in tears because she need the appointment urgently and had been waiting for days. Then the receptionist (Lindsey) refused to do anything about it and told my girlfriend to call back tomorrow and told her to leave as she had other people waiting. I then phone to make a complaint and the same woman answered the phone (Lindsey). I then explained that my girlfriend really needed the appointment and that she was willing to wait until everyone else had been seen for her appointment or even just to speak to a doctor she then said its her fault she was late and it's not her problem that she's I'll and needs an appointment today. I then tried to ask for a manager and conveniently there was not one in at this time. So I then requested if I could maybe speak to a doctor to explaine and she said if my girlfriend was needing an appointment then she should go to the hospital! I then started to speak and she said that it's not her problem and put the phone down on me. This is discussing behaviour from someone who works in customer service and from what I have read this seems to be a problem that is shared by a lot of people. How many people have to complaine before they are sent for a training day to learn how to speak to members of the public who you are being paid to serve?!

After 177 calls as it was engaged I was told there was no availability for the day. Disgustingly terrible. Never have I despised a place so much. I was given no other option over the phone once the blunt lady said there was nothing left. Anyone know of any better doctors I can register to?

167 calls at 8AM until I FINALLY got into the queue. Only to be met by an obnoxious receptionist who said "we're fully booked now, no more appointments; ring again tomorrow". It'll be the same story in the morning!

GREEEEAAAAT service for people who are unwell.

We have been with this medical practice nearly 2 and a half years and only once have they managed to get my prescription correct. I have complex medical conditions and don't need the added stress and anxiety caused whenever it is time to collect my prescriptions. It is a shame, because the girls in the attached pharmacy in the building are absolutely brilliant, friendly are extremely helpful.

They have been excellent in the last six months. Appointments can be made either online or via the phone and if they cannot see you in person it is possible to request a phone consultation to give further advice. Reception have been helpful in clearing up queries and I like the automated check in screens so that you don't have to queue just to say you arrived. The chemist being on site is really helpful as is the large carpark. Better than the surgery in Dinas Powys that we left.
