Following redundancy from a position in business administration, I decided after quite a long period of unemployment to venture down the route of self-employment.

I have combined my love of all things wooden and my passion for decorating to establish Wooden Wonders…. by Katie. By incorporating plaques, signs, decorative items and more along with the painted furniture and mirrors, it has enabled me to embrace a style which works in a country or contemporary home setting.

All furniture items and mirrors are sanded where required and where I feel the urge to sand, cleaned, primed and then painted with three coats of satin paint. Once dry, I distress the furniture where it would naturally become worn then polish with two coats of clear Briwax. This enables the items to be cleaned as you would door frames etc with a soft cloth and a soapy wood wash or even Fairy liquid; of course good old Mr Sheen works just as well. If someone has a passion for an item (or items) to be distressed more, I can of course do this (especially on days when the kids, grandchildren, dogs, cats or chickens have got on my nerves! ). The mirrors and glass doors get the additional special treatment of a spritz of Windolene and a lovely soft cloth. I shy away from commissioned furniture painting as the afore-mentioned humans and animals tend to get a stressed mother and a late dinner!

I am a perfectionist; this doesn’t mean I believe my items are perfect to any degree. However, I ensure I spend time and effort on producing something that I believe is suitable for any home. I certainly would house these items and believe me, I’m a fussy so-and-so!
