This building has an olde charm about it, eluding to the potential for a pleasant stay in a charming building, but sadly that isn't the case. Immediately you are greeted at the door by a 3 star food hygiene rating sticker. As you enter the building you would be mistaken for expecting to find a reception, but instead you need to find the staff in the bar area and check in there. Not a good idea to take your bags in until you have the room key, or you will find yourself plonking your bags down on the sticky bar carpet while you fill out paperwork with your personal details at a very public bar. As you make your way to your room you will pass several piles of clean bedding and towels plonked at the top of the stairs, not even neatly but simply dumped there. The carpets themselves are disgusting on the landing. Dried sick on the stairs into one room, poorly fitted and dirty throughout the entire landing. The family room I stayed in wasn't too bad, but the room had an odd smell that cleared with an open window. The double bed was actually two singles pushed together. The bathroom wasn't particularly clean and the loo roll was a huge wheel like you get at service stations, the type that break off as you try to gather some. The shower gathers heat directly from the sun, any attempt to pass number two on the heat control will result in a trip to the burns department. We didn't eat here, the 3 stars for hygiene on top of the condition of the rest of the building left us confident that we would be served with disappointment. In the morning we left just after 8am and could not find any staff to hand keys into, or even a drop off box. I had to go back to the room and leave the key inside in the hope that it would be collected by a cleaner and handed in. It's fair to say that we won't be returning again.
