Yamaha Off Road Experience team riders headed to Windermere lake in Cumbria this past weekend for rounds 3&4 of the British Enduro Championship.
Both Fraser Flockhart and Alex Walton were coming into the event having had plenty of bike time at the recent Enduro GP rounds so felt confident they could do well. Alex set a very fast time on the first test and continued to keep his hat in the mix for a top 6 but as the day wore on his times started to slip a little and a few mista...kes meant he took the WR250 to an 8th place finish on day 1. On day 2 Alex struggled with the conditions but still scored good points in 8th again! Fraser Flockhart had a steadier start but soon found some decent pace but sadly he had a major crash on the final lap, going over the handlebars and getting a WR450 straight in his back. He was taken to hospital for further examination after breathing difficulties and coughing up blood but thankfully he was given the all clear and should be back on the bike in the near future. After being discharged on Saturday night, he came back and helped the team on Sunday, despite looking very second hand!
The third rider in the Championship class was Charlie Evans on a 250 2 stroke. The Llanidloes based rider had a difficult first day where he struggled to get a good feeling on the bike and therefore couldn’t really find his pace. However, on the wet and wild day 2, with conditions more suited to him, he eventually got into a rhythm and picked up the pace! He finished with a pair of 9th’s! On Day 2 he was just under a second away from stealing 8th from his team mate Alex Walton!
The fourth rider was young Charlie Chater in the Expert class on a YZ125. Charlie set some great times over the weekend. In only his first year of BEC competition it is more about experience than the results for him but regardless of that he still still romped home to a 7/5 scorecard overall and a 2/3 in the 125 Class! It's been a good weekend for the Yamaha Off Road Experience enduro team, at the superb Caio Enduro round 3 of the Welsh Enduro Championship, organised by Dyfed Dirt Bike Club. Charlie Evans took the overall win to extend his Championship lead. Young Charlie Chater Racing just missed out on the podium with a 4th in the Experts class with only 8 seconds separating 1st to 4th. Rowan Jones had a very rare competitive outing taking the win in the Vets class by the smallest of margins, in his 1st event in more than 10 years.
