Arrived on site on Wednesday to find no reception area, just a sign on the way in telling you to ring either of 2 numbers to contact owner. Tried the numbers several times with no success, so sat waiting for over half hour. Eventually owner did answer house phone apologising for her mobile number not working!! Apparently she had changed service provider.

We were then shown to our pitch. The very helpful owner Teresa told us what was in and around the area such as shops and train station etc. Our first impressions of the site were poor, we are far from snobbish and don't expect really high standards but for a site charging £25 per night it was not good. There was lots of digging work going on, which I understand cannot be avoided at times. However, the whole of the site was run down, very untidy and not very well maintained. Other than patches of grass the roads were covered with rough slate; this was very sharp and not suitable for very young children. On the very first day our dog cut her paws open on this and it had to be dressed for the rest of the week.

As far as other guests were concerned there were very few people around. It seemed the majority of caravans pitched had been there for many years as they were very dated and had awnings, waste water, etc still set up with nobody in them.

The toilet blocks I have to say smelt very clean but again we're very run down with very slow running cold showers. The shower heads faced your clothes and so ended up wet. Tiles on the floor were also not secure and again not ideal for youngsters. Toilet doors had no locks on either.

The area of fairbourne was very pretty with a handful of little shops and a lovely stretch of beach. However I did not feel there was enough to do for the length of time we stayed. Our saving grace was the regular train journey into Barmouth priced at £3 return.

To sum up my review, had I known what this site was like beforehand, I would not have stayed here. That said, i would consider it suitable for an overnight stay on long journeys. As previously said £25 was far too expensive and we have stayed in much better campsites for less money.
