About Zeroamp

ZeroAMP is a project on Information and Communication Technologies funded by the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme. The goal of ZeroAMP is to establish a new technology platform for zero-leakage nanoelectromechanical relay (NEM) switch-based logic and non-volatile memory. This integrated NEM relay technology will enable very high energy efficiency and harsh-environment capability (use at temperatures > 275 °C or < 4K; absorbed-radiation doses up to 10 Mrad), unattainable with CMOS technology and even with other experimental technologies currently on the horizon. ZeroAMP technology-solution will use novel materials, switch designs and circuit techniques along with advanced 3D stacking for large-scale integration of the nanomechanical switching elements. The technology platform targeted by ZeroAMP is a potential game-changer in the automotive, energy, aerospace and industrial automation industries, and may well act as an enabling technology for cryogenic /quantum computing. Application fields that will benefit from ZeroAMP include: integrated sensing, data processing, and transmission capability for the Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Cities, all-electric vehicles and more-electric aircraft. ZeroAMP is a project of Microchip Technology, X-FAB MEMS Foundry GmbH, AMO GmbH, the University of Bristol, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) and SCIPROM. ZeroAMP is funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 871740 (ZeroAMP). Cover image courtesy of Jamie Reynolds
