"When you lose a spouse you become a widow, when you lose your parents you become a orphan but there is no word for when you lose your child as it should never happen but having Acorns made it that tiny bit easier to deal with."

What a truly special place - we looked round today with the hope of fundraising for Acorns this year and we were overwhelmed by the warmth and care that came from the team and volunteers - by the absolute bucket load. During such an incredibly difficult and impossible to comprehend time, this place and these people bring as much love, comfort and compassion as they possibly can to families including siblings, grandparents and friends. We were blown away. Thank you so much for inviting us into such a very special place.

User

We have been bringing our son Leon to Acorns in Worcester for about 8 months. The love and care shown by the team is wonderful. There is always a variety of activities and visitors to keep him happy whilst we have a few hours respite. It's hard to hand over the care of your son when he has so many issues but the staff at Acorns Hospice always take great care of him xx

User

They gave my daughter the best end of life care. She was comfortable and not in pain and that's thanks to them. I can't thank them enough. Georgie-May was treated like family by everyone in selly oak acorns. They gave my family a home whilst Georgie-May was there. We spent the last moments of her precious life together as a family. ❤️

User

Such a amazing place that has and is helping my daughter and her family make memories that we may never have got with my grandson I can never thank them enough x

User

Outstanding selly oak hospice went above and beyond not only for my little boy but for my whole family too

User

My daughter had gone to acorns Selly Oak for around 15 years and became a massive part of her life and ours. They were a huge support to us all and alway incorporated our other children in anything going on. They offered help and support when both myself and my wife suffered breakdowns. My daughter is now nearly 19 and we lost acorns when she turned 18 and was a massive loss to us all and a great shame that this happens to kids with conditions like my daughter who is adult in age but still a child in mind and body. To find a place suitable in adult services is so difficult. A big thank you to acorns for everything you have done for my daughter and all my family. X

User

Im a volunteer at weoley castle shop. The acorns charity does an amazing job and helps lots of children and familys. Its soo wonderful to see the difference that all the hard work everyone puts in makes to the familys who recieve help from this wonderful charity

I will be doing a motorcycle ride for the hospice from John O Groats to Lands End on the longest day of the year 21/06/14, leaving at sunrise on a bike that cost less than £300 and plan to complete before sunrise the next day. Look me up on just giving any sponsorship muchly appreciated. Thank you.

User

I have been a volunteer at Acorns since it opened 10 years ago and I love going there. I befriend the children, work in the kitchen, work on reception and take people on tours round the hospice. It has been part of my life for long time now and I hope I can be there for many more years but as I am now 71 time is running out for me!!!!

User

I can’t express in words how much I Love Acorns children’s hospice (Worcester). Our son was transferred there at 2 months old for palliative care as his seizures were uncontrollable. We stayed there as a family. Had help to explain everything to our daughter and family. We prepared for worse but Arthur had other ideas and he’s now back home with us. But I truly believe we would not be where we are now without Acorns. It’s our home away from home and we will always support them and love them. And we are so lucky to be supported by them still and love going back there for respite care and catch ups.

User

User

Acorns helped my son .he thought it was a five star hotel. And that was 25 years ago. We fund raise with a boxing day raffle with family . Every year. It is always over £100. But every bit count I cannot praise all past and present staff for a wonderful job, they do to ensure everyone is looked after .It's not just for the children. But for all family. Once again acorns thank you for all the good work you do .x

User

Acorns Worcester helped give palative care to my daughter in November 2014 after her having a massive stroke. The care and attention not only to her but to our family was outstanding!! I stayed with my daughter in her room, but was made welcome at all hours (certainly in the early hrs of the day/night) nothing was too much trouble, all the staff do an amazing job, from the general day staff, cleaners, kitchen staff, volunteers, nurses and doctors and community team. Thankyou, xxx

User

Acorns Walsall is great, the staff are lovely and my children both love it there. Amy is well looked after and enjoys every minute and I know she is being well cared for.

User

Acorns Walsall cared for my daughter Isla Grace Groom. She was born with Edwards syndrome, which on diagnosis we were told was incompatible with life! The future for us was very scary from this point. However we were quickly referred to Acorns. What did acorns do for us.... I'm not sure where to start! They did so many wonderful things that we will never ever forget, there were many good times at the hospice which outweighed the bad. The bad being end of life care and when isla passed away. The good times, well there were so many! From playing with her sisters in the spa pool to being creative in the art room and just spending time together In the family room chilling! knowing specialist staff were available if we needed them...and many times we did! We made so many memories there which will stay with us forever. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you all at Acorns from Doctors, nurses sibling workers, community workers, physiotherapists, catering team for all those lovely meals and all those amazing volunteers that keep the hospices looking lovely and supporting us at the hospice when we were there and a special mention to the fundraising team Sally and Louise for helping me to keep isla's memory alive by supporting my fundraising that means so much to us as a family thank you so much. We love you all and are so thankful for your support on our emotional but wonderful journey with Isla Smiler x
