About Anchor Digbeth

The Anchor is a place of comfort to enjoy real ale, ciders, craft beers, wine, spirits and even cocktails, modern drinking in a traditional boozer.

Anchor Digbeth Description

The Anchor is one of the oldest public houses in Digbeth, Birmingham, England, dating back to 1797. The current building was constructed in 1901 to a design by James and Lister Lea for the Holt Brewery Company. The terracotta on the façade is believed to have come from the Hathern Station Brick and Terracotta Company of Loughborough. On 10 December 1991 the building was designated Grade II listed building status, along with other nearby pubs such as the White Swan. The pub won the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) award of 'Regional Pub of the Year' in 1996 /7, 1998 /9, 2003 /4 and again 2007 /8. Taken over By Raising Bars LTD on 8Th August 2016 - Julian Rose-Gibbs and his team including Jacob Clarke and Jason McGreen began sympathetically refurbishing the boozer without closing to enable the regulars and existing staff to become part of the transformation. We have updated The Anchor (we lost the 'INN' bit owing to not having rooms or food available) without losing any of the character. Firstly we brought the standard of ale back to what it should be, widened the selection of drinks available then trained the staff on the service of the wine, cocktail, gin and Boilermaker drinks lists. Finally we gave her a lick of paint and a lot of love to create a comfortable space for you to enjoy your drink /catch-up or celebration.

User

Wonderful pub with a great choice of beers. The 'old pub' atmosphere with all the original featured makes this a must visit place in my book. Reasonable prices too for the city centre.

Went last night and the place was humming.

Well done Jules. See you soon

User

What a fantastic pub! Beautiful building, amazing range of beers and happy, knowledgable staff. The kind of place to while away far too much time

User

Warm, friendly & knowledgable staff. A great selection of well kept cask ales as well as a sound selection of modern craft beers, cocktails and award winning spirits

You won't be disappointed

User

The Anchor is a truly hidden gem, great staff and owner... good beers, always been a great pub, but looking and sounding better than ever.

User

Superb old fashioned pub, fantastic owner and staff and great drinks at sensible prices. A real gem and so worth popping past the Market towards the coach station to find

User

Shit service, crap beer, watered down cocktails, horrible regulars, abysmal decor, waiting a decade to get served, bland food, atrocious music, miserable staff, overpriced drinks and tasteless food.

It's enough to drive a person crazy. I can honestly see why there are more and more people are going teetotal when you receive this infuriating treatment every time you go out and want to have a good time.

Well I have some advice for you. Stop going to these shit holes you all keep visiting and get yourself down to a real pub like the Anchor in Digbeth. You don't get any of the above here, just amazing service amongst amazing people.

Here are just a few reasons why you should f**k paying your rent on your flat (your landlord is rich enough) and throw it all behind the bar of the Anchor.

Boilermakers - so good they make you want to slap your granny. Have a few of these and you will be girating on the lap of your uber driver within a few minutes.

Cocktails - Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. The return of the Brum born Bombphire.

Music - gone are the days of the old quid in the jukebox, now you can choose what plays from the comfort of your seat. I know this because I actually put a song on whilst sitting on the Anchor crapper.

Please don't take my word for it, get yourself down there and see it all for yourself.

DISCLAIMER: when you have spent all your rent in this wonderful pub, I hold no responsibility for homelessness, arguements with the other half, death of starvation for your pets or any genital mutilation that may follow.

User

Proper old school pub with a fantastic sense of community. Nice mix of long-time punters and new drinkers which gives it an inclusive vibe.

Top class cellar keeping and an awesome set of staff make it one of the best boozers in Brum!

User

Original Digbeth boozer with period fixtures and fittings.Wonderful array of ales, liqueurs, beers, spirits and wines. And cocktails if you must. Cool mix of clientele with regulars, students and Digbeth newbies. A unique pub.

User

Nice venue, the staff are incredible. Would like to thank the staff for their help tonight I really appreciate it :)

User

Love it here real ale great music fantastic people. I would recommend this place to any one. My sis who lives in America also loves it here. Unfortunately not do good when I have to get up for work the next day. For some reason the time seems to fly in here.

Love love love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

User

Look I'm not gonna give anything other than five stars cos I love the place But.....I know it was the parade and all But........plastic glasses and Guinness £4.50 was a bit naughty - anyway nice people, friending bar staff, lovely baps, great beer so all good 😊

User

Its a good pub with good beer and cracking music .....only come to digbeth on the coach but had an hour or two to kill and was the best bit of the journey.

User

Haven't been in here for a long time it used to be tired, gloomy and smelly. What a great job the new people have done, it has been painted, cleaned and the smell has gone.

The bar staff are great, we were introduced to Jason and Ben they couldn't do enough for us and enjoyed having a chat. It's great to see an old favourite come back to life. We will definitely be going back soon.

User

Great pub - the owner Julian is doing a great job and is restoring the pub beautifully. Lovely, friendly barmaid made is feel very welcome. Excellent, well-kept ales. Looking forward to going back soon!

User

Great little pub.......

Near to the Brum Coach Station...

And a short walk from Moor St and New St railway stations......

Great selection of real ales n cider.

Traditional pub snacks.......

And best of all....... its a proper, traditional and friendly boozer thats worth seeking out.

User

1st time in Birmingham centre (to attend a concert) and found Anchor by chance. What a fabulous old pub with real ales, still has the old fashioned pub detailing but most of all the staff were very welcoming especially Sophie. We had a lovely time and hopin to come back soon. Thank you for makin us so welcome

User

I was concerned when it was taken over as it seemed there was a lack of interest in real ale. Today I find an interesting selection of a few ales to restore confidence. However, with capacity for so much more, real ale could be taken to a new level. Time will tell

User

A period gem, warren of rooms each with a unique character. Proper music, friendly and welcoming staff.

User

I m sure most people come here for the drink only. Avoid the over priced awful food as it really is not worth the effort. Very over priced for a back street pub. Staff lovely though and it is a “ proper” pub - just don’t eat here
