What a special fish it was too - fathers day, boiling hot, had been catching nothing. Then had a visit from my little girl in the afternoon to cheer me up. Sorry to start the week on a negative point but this is what we have to put up with on our “wild” rivers. Us fishermen come under scrutiny for it being cruel, questioning if fish feel pain etc, but the sort of activities above are cruel to the entire countryside. By being an angler you are the eyes and ears of the riverbank, and all you want is for the best for the environment. We pay to use the river, to fish, yet we get fined if we forget our licence (even if we've had one for years) - but where is our mandatory licence fee going if these activities are not managed? The canoe situation on the Wye is beyond a joke now - who cares? No one.

This from last week in France. Yes I was using a drone but what a help in finding spots (not that it did me any good!). What do you think of the use of drones in fishing? Ok to find spots/take pictures, or is it cheating and has no place in our passtime? 😊🐟

18lbs caught from our Lower Symonds Yat syndicate yesterday 🐟😊 cracking looking fish but turns out it’s a “well mended Kelt” i.e a fish that has spawned and is on it’s way back out to sea. The fins are a little ragged and there’s damage to the anal fin where it’s been spawning. Up and down like the proverbial....hopefully this will run off for the last few days of the season. Stay safe out there though, especially post-flood as the banks will be ultra slippery. We have slimline self inflating lifejackets in store, along with dog spikes and rope. Good luck 👍🎣

Pike fishing has been slow for us this winter, but recent conditions have really brought them on the feed. An angry, pre-spawning pike knows how to kick too. Over this last couple of days of the Angling Dreams pike fishing season (Nov 1st to Feb 28th), handle them with extra care whilst looking after yourself too. Use a good unhooking mat, long forceps, and keep your grazes and cuts clean ⛑ 🎣

Excellent meeting with Korda/Guru today - saw some lovely new bits which we’ve pre-ordered ready for release in March. Topped up existing stock too so shelves are full for the spring, including a full lead restock! 👍 🎣
