When carring out an Emergency Stop you are NOT SUPPOSED to check the MAIN MIRROR.The reason is because you are trying to save a human life and you will have lost valuable time if you check the mirror first. Funnily though if you are trying to save an animal, then you are supposed to check the main mirror first. I wonder what Animal Rights Campaigners think of this?
