1644 and civil war has turned Warwickshire into a battleground. With war has come shortages of food, plagues (of soldiers and disease both), and widespread looting – this is not natural, and has been blamed on many different things, but amongst them are sinners and witches.
Accusations of witchcraft have plagued southern Warwickshire and Sir Thomas Holte, Justice of the Peace, has been tasked with determining their guilt. Being a man of the law he summons experts, and a jury..., to establish the truth and to give a verdict of Guilt or Innocence for each person accused of witchcraft!
The trial is ready to begin when disaster, or evil, strikes and one of the witnesses collapses, dead. The finger of suspicion points to witch craft or sorcery but could there be something else at work? That, too, is for the jury to decide…
This rare opportunity to see the grand old mansion at night will put your sleuthing skills into action. Only you can determine the fate of the accused witches, and only you can seek the truth behind the mysterious death!
Our café, gift shop and grounds will be open from 3.30pm, and throughout the evening until 8.30pm. When booking please select from one of the following two time slots: - 3pm, with the briefing at 4pm, you will have one and a half hours to sleuth before the reveal at 5.45pm OR - 6.30pm, with the briefing at 7pm, and the reveal at 8.45pm Make sure you arrive in good time for your briefing.
PLEASE NOTE: this isn’t a murder mystery dinner, there isn’t a meal, but we can guarantee an evening of laughs, serious sleuthing, beautiful surroundings, and the satisfaction of supporting Birmingham Museums Trust, a registered charity which keeps incredible buildings like Aston Hall open and cared for. There isn’t a prize, but you can’t put a price on being the fastest or the most intelligent person in the room.
This event takes place throughout the building, and some of the suspects and clues will be located on the upper floors of the building, which are accessed by stairs only. As the building has uneven floors we recommend comfortable footwear, and a warm layer as evenings can be cool and some of the event will take place outside. Stiletto heels are not permitted without heel covers.
This event is suitable for ages 12 and upwards. Children under 18 must be accompanied at all times.
Pre-booking is essential. Tickets are non-refundable.

What a hidden Gem this place is, well worth the time to visit

User

What a great place to visit, so much history! A really enjoyable afternoon with two great tour guides who were very knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

User

Visited yesterday april 1st for aston in wonderland the event was good but the hall is wonderful wow wonderful eerie feel about this place x

Today we came for the siege, the reenactment actors were fantastic with friends and our children, 2 with special needs, we had a great laugh with many of them, and how they worked around the many visitors was great to see. We took lots of pictures and thoroughly enjoyed our day watching what took place. We visit the cafe regularly and the staff are more then helpful.

Thank you for great adventure back in time

Super visit to Aston Hall. Our guide, Mike, was excellent; knowledgeable and entertaining, he brought to life the history of this impressive site. You get a real sense of what it would have been like in Jacobean times. The grounds are also great. Finished off with a lovely cream tea in the cafe, this was great value for money. A real local treasure.

User

Super day out. I visited for the first time last month and am hooked. Become a museum member and take advantage of free entry plus 10% off in the cafe and gift shop. Beautiful grounds, a stunning house and outstanding staff and volunteers. Go.

User

Such a lovely place. Its nice to see so many people looking after such a great place like aston. The detail in the stair case and how old it is. A credit to birmingham.

My family and I had a fantastic time at your May Day Play Day today The older kids enjoyed the clay modelling whilst the younger kids explored the grounds (especially the puddles!) and we all had a lovely time making dens before a lunch break to re-fuel for 2 trails (around the house and around the gardens) which the older 2 kids thoroughly enjoyed. All the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and Jess' vanilla latte was so yummy we had to keep coming back for more well done everyone involved!

User

Lovely place to visit. We had some pics over there and we got some great shots I felt like I belong to that place and era. Will definitely recommend to all my friends !!!

User

I had not been to Aston Hall for many years but with the Aston alive Victorian day event taking place on the 12/08/17 it provided the perfect opportunity to (hopefully) get some great photos. Although there wasn't that much taking place for the event itself, a travelling side show Emporium, a chemist display of remedies etc and HRH Queen Victoria there was also the opportunity to go round the hall again with stories being told by the helpful, knowledgeable staff. The building has a long fascinating history and is well maintained. I was interviewed by a guy collecting information about visitors experience asking how I would rate my visit. As I told him, I really enjoyed my day and Aston Hall is a real gem that should continue to be preserved for future generations. The only criticisms were the prices in the coffee shop were considered a little expensive (I didn't go in my friend bought a round of tea and cake) and a limited choice and that if all the staff wore period costume and took on the character of someone from Aston Hall's past, this would really bring history alive for visitors. I must also say to emphasise this point that the history re-enactors who were dressed in Victorian clothing were brilliant and looked amazing. Finally, meeting Queen Victoria was also fantastic, Sylvia Strange specialises in portraying Victoria and has her down to a tee. She knows her history and was so convincing I felt embarrassed being in her company in an open necked shirt!!! She was a lovely lady who was very accommodating in posing for some pictures. So all in all I had a very enjoyable day and will not be leaving it over 20 years for my next visit that's for sure. If you haven't been for a while or never been, get yourself back to Aston Hall and enjoy some fascinating history and a stunning Jacobean building.

Had a really great time yesterday going round the hall. The guides we had were really good.

Had a great time at Aston Hall with Lady Mary Elizabeth Holte aka Gayle Bevan, had a nice conversation with King Charles 1st and Sir Thomas Holte and then had a lesson on playing a hurdy gurdy from the royal musician, great few hours.

User

Fascinating spot. First class welcome from helpful and knowledgeable staff. Alex and Rik were esp. lovely. Keep up the good work.

User

Fantastic day at Aston Hall for the food festival yesterday!! The atmosphere was amazing and it wasn't too overcrowded, there was an amazing selection for foods stalls and businesses there, we loved it! Also had a tour of Aston Hall itself, it was beautiful and well worth it for £5

User

Absolutely loved it, Birminghams hidden gem, the hall the gardens everything.

User

A really enjoyable experience without being too crowded and overpowered. A venue which had a relaxed friendly atmosphere with a variety of good food and a wide range of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, with a wonderful historic backdrop. Also a range of interesting stalls selling some very interesting and unusual items.

User

A beautiful building inside and out so much better than what I had actually expected, only about three other families walking around the house on the day that I visited so wasn’t over crowded and you were able to see everything at your leisure, very helpful staff and a relaxed atmosphere. The actual artefacts inside the hall were amazing and in such good condition considering there age, a great credit to Birmingham who have looked after Aston Hall remarkably well over the years, was a little disappointed in the gift shop as I did think it would be bigger and have more gifts on offer but other than that it’s a fantastic place to visit.

User

Aston Hall,

I used to come here after school, alone. Walking around the mansion and imagining the people who used to live here. The history. The stories of their lives.

What I loved the most is the aroma of coffee that welcomed me. There was a small cafe inside. And I just loved going there even though I couldn't really drink coffee.

I was 15-16 years old that time about 22 years ago. Aston Hall was one of my best and peaceful hangouts after school. I hope I get to visit it one day. And I am happy to see the new changes to it.
