Went there for lunch on Friday. I can't give this place enough praise. We were seen too immediately, the staff were friendly, the food was amazing and the speed of service is what particularly impressed me. A good array of drinks to choose from and the ambiance was spot on. Will definitely be back.

I chose The Ridgeway on the recommendation of a fellow 'foodie' for a lunch with friends from Somerset. The restaurant and bar had a nice ambience, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food was the star of the show. The ingredients did the talking and were presented in a modern and impressive style. It was value for money and I will be coming back and bringing people with me.

Food was A1 steak was full of flavour hot and cooked as i like it rare but it usually comes cold but not at the Ridgeway big to the chef service atmosphere and venue great I went for my birthday meal with the family and couldn't fault it

We were a party of 10 for Sunday lunch. I'm afraid to say that the service was so slow that we ended up cancelling deserts and leaving, it had been nearly 45mins between courses. Two of the party had lamb and although they asked for well done it was non edible, burnt and so tough you couldn't cut it. After serving the main courses we were asked if we wanted sauces etc but by the time they arrived we'd eaten half the food so it was pointless. All in all a really expensive lunch with bad service (personally not the waitresses fault, I think down to the kitchen and lack of management!) and a standard lunch. I've had much better for half the price. I won't be returning.

The service today was shocking. It seemed like there was no overall direction, or grasp of what was required at each stage of the service. I don't even know where to start because the disappointing service continued throughout the meal. First of all only 4 out of the 5 of our party were asked for our drink orders, the person rushing off without checking they had all the orders. An oversight we thought, but actually this example continued. It took 10 minutes to tell 3 of us that our drinks were unavailable. And then, only 3 out of 5 drinks arrived. We had to chase the others up which finally arrived after 25 minutes.

One of us ordered the lamb and when was asked how they wanted it, asked for medium and was told brusquely it was either rare or well done.

We waited an hour and a half for the main courses. With no intervention, apology or explanation. Since we were hosting a family group, coming from a long way away, to scatter a loved ones ashes, we wanted to create a good, at least, relaxing impression. Unbeknown to the whole group, individually we asked 4 times about the main courses and received no explanation. In the meantime we weren't even asked if we wanted any more drinks.

Finally we were offered the dessert menu and reluctantly accepted. However, after 15 minutes no-one had shown any interest in taking our order. By this time it was gone 4pm. We decided to leave feeling perplexed and disappointed.

We heard others say that they would not be going back and I feel the same way.

Beer good, two of three courses excellent but they need to decide whether they're a pub or a restaurant. The kitchen tried hard with some success but were badly let down by poorly trained waiting staff and a chap (white shirt, blue trousers) who may have been some sort of manager or maitre d' ) who had a serious attitude problem - wandering around like he either had the hangover from hell or didn't want to be there. Mackerel scotch egg perfect, pork and accompaniments excellent but vanilla ice-cream tasteless full of ice crystals (strange because the chocolate ice-cream was fine).

The real killer though was the 'music' - completely unnecessary, rattling through rubbish speakers and clearly chosen by the staff to their own taste rather than taking any notice of the clientele - which, unfortunately, sums up the problem with the whole place.

Doubt that they will stay in business for long as they repeatedly missed opportunities to sell to us (menus but no wine list, almost had to beg for service, water glasses but no water until requested, no suggestion of liqueurs, stupid bill presentation and no option to add a tip when paying by card).

A pub at restaurant prices.

5 of us came for an evening meal last week Service we received was awful. Had to keep chasing the staff for drinks, starters came out, but in dribs and drabs. Had the fish which I must admit was lovely but the fish was laid on top of the chips which made them soggy. Should have been put in a basket on the side If the staff had been more efficient we would have had more drinks. In 2 half hours we only had 2 drinks. Not from lack of asking. Gave up by then and left. Staff seemed as though they just didn't want to be there. Over all very disappointed

User

Waiting over an hour for 2 main courses was not on. The restaurant didn't seem massively busy as there were tables around us having starters and mains before we even had our main. One table had their food before us and we were already sat down for a good 15 minutes. The food was also very bland, and certainly not worth the money. The staff were apologetic and did waiver the food bill which was very respectful of them. Shall not be returning

User

Very over priced food, really poor quality food also, my brother in law and I both had the steak, this was flavourless and fatty, my daughter kids burger was the nicest meal on the table, we were looked down on because we choose not to wear suits in the weather, instead we wore shorts and T shirt, the service was sub standard, all in all very disappointed and will not be a returning customer
