I recently had the honour of celebrating the life of a lovely man and a much loved man. He had always been keen on doing things differently and economically. His celebration of life met both of those criteria. I was introduced to his wife while he was still alive but close to death. We talked about the options for a simple cremation and a celebration a few days later. [ 271 more words ] https://www.attwoodfunerals.co.uk/celebra tion-of-life-arou…/

Kate and Mike could not have been more kind, helpful and sympathetic. They worked so hard to try and realise the last wishes of my husband. The Order of Service was put together beautifully and many people commented on it. I felt I had very warm and considerate personal attention and that helped to make such a difficult time a beneficial experience.

Kate and Mike allowed us to see funerals in a completely different way, as a celebration for my Dad that we could make entirely personal and special, instead of something to be afraid of. They were both very supportive, empathetic, respectful and accommodating through all our ups and downs during the process of planning the funeral.

Kate and Mike took care of all the paperwork and formalities and told us exactly what we needed to do our end which made it a lot easier for us as we had no idea about the formalities that had to happen. They were very attentive and made regular appointments to come out to see us.

As we developed more ideas for the ceremony, they found a way to make everything happen the way we wanted it. They also suggested low cost options and wanted to save us money wherever possible. For example we wanted a Land Rover to take Dad's coffin, and since we still had Dad's Land Rover, Kate and Mike spent time sorting it out so that Dad's coffin could fit in it to go to the ceremony (which he would have loved!)

After deciding on our order of service and sending our chosen photographs to Mike, he created a stunning Order of Service booklet for the day which were beautiful keepsakes for us.

Due to us choosing Westhope Green Natural Burial Ground, we were able to go to the lovely onsite chapel the day before the funeral to decorate it with photos, candles, incense and flowers. Kate spent a lot of time with us at the chapel that day making sure everything was perfect.

On the day I couldn't fault a thing. Everything was perfect when we arrived and it went better than we had planned. Kate said some beautiful words throughout the ceremony in between our own poems that we read ourselves, and Mike had all the technical aspects well under control. At the graveside, the apple blossom was even blowing across the grave causing quite a magical yet emotional atmosphere. I did not expect to ever use these sorts of words to describe a funeral! Lots of people have commented since on what a wonderful ceremony it was to celebrate my Dad's life.

Throughout the process, Kate and Mike's thoughtful gestures meant a lot to us. When we first met Kate, she gave me, my mom and my sister a sprig of rosemary each, rosemary for remembrance. On such an upsetting day this gesture brought comfort to the point where I have dried and kept the sprig safe since. We also had very specific instructions on how Dad would have wanted to be dressed, and they made sure that everything we had listed was done exactly right. When visiting Dad in the Chapel of Rest, Kate met us there to support us before going in and after two hours she was still there waiting for us when we came out. This really made me feel like we weren't doing this difficult thing alone, her support at the Chapel of Rest definitely helped us to feel safe and contained despite the emotions we were feeling.

Overall, the funeral was absolutely perfect. It was personal and intimate and included so much of what Dad loved. I wholeheartedly believe that we could not have created such a wonderful celebration without Kate and Mike at Attwood Funerals and I do not think that we would have experienced the same level of support after Dad's passing if we had chosen anyone else. The support they give doesn't just end after the funeral either as Kate runs weekly bereavement and meditation groups, providing a space for people to develop a support network which is particularly important due to a lack of these services being offered in the community.

Thank you so much Kate and Mike for everything you've done for us! X
