Building a business whilst on holiday.
As the summer draws to a close, productivity levels in the office should rise back up, not just for your employees.
One effect of summer is that business owners often feel obliged to cover the workload of their missing employees. These employees have temporarily escaped from the office for their summer-break.
... One report suggests that 1 in 6 entrepreneurs miss out on taking a break during the summer because their staff are taking time off. For some business owners a break away is simply out of the question, and for those who do get the chance to leave the office, they have been made to feel guilty for working whilst on holiday.
Those who fall into the latter group, are often criticised for bringing their smartphones and laptops with them to keep track of work emails. But perhaps, this is an irrational guilt, after all, being a business owner is a major part of your identity and separating yourself from your business whilst on holiday would be like severing a limb. Certainly it is important not to overwork, and getting away from the office is a good way to boost sales and your productivity levels.
A better way of approaching a holiday, especially at the early stage of building a business, when you are not quite ready to let go, is to see it as an opportunity to network, an opportunity to discuss your ideas or test out your business direction on willing listeners.
Realistically, the success of your business will depend on how much time and energy you invest in it especially during those early stages, and whilst others maybe able to switch off totally this may not work for you.
Write your ideas down whilst sightseeing, this could spark creativity for the next marketing campaign, or write a blog post whilst lounging by the pool, or eat out to inspire your next mouth watering creation. These are all perfect ways of building a business whilst on holiday. Thanks to modern technology, you can pin these ideas and put them to action once you return to the office!
