Honda has announced plans to stop producing gasoline-only cars by 2022.
The carmaker said it will "electrify" all of its models sold in Europe within the next three years - which includes making many models hybrid.
Hybrid vehicles carry a traditional internal combustion engine as well as a battery pack.
... The Japanese company has brought forward its original plan to move away from petrol-only and diesel-only vehicles by three years from its previously announced target of 2025.
Speaking from Amsterdam to Sky News' Ian King Live, the company's senior vice president for Europe, Tom Gardner, said the decision will considerably change the line-up of cars it offers.
He said: "Honda is the world's largest engine manufacturer, and from what we have announced today we are committing to ending all mainstream non-electrified petrol and diesel production for Europe by the end of 2022."
Earlier this year, Sky News first revealed Honda's decision to shutdown its Swindon factory, which employs 3,500 people.

Man drives unsupervised to own driving test, then fails it and is arrested!
West Midlands Police say it is the 10th time the motorist failed his test and drove to the examiners' centre in a stolen car.
A motorist has been arrested after travelling unsupervised to his own driving test in a stolen car.
... Then the man failed his test for the 10th time, police said.
West Midlands Police posted a picture of the white Mitsubishi vehicle the driver had turned up in in before officers attended the scene.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent (TWOC) at the test centre in Birdbrook Road, Great Barr, at around 11am.

Drivers of electric cars across the UK may soon be using special green number plates under new plans.
The aim is to make it possible for local authorities to allow zero-emission vehicles to benefit from incentives such as cheaper parking.
The government hopes it will boost electric car sales, helping it achieve its 2050 target of net zero emissions.... But Friends of the Earth said without better financial incentives and more charging points, little would change.
The government is asking industry and the public for their views on how to implement the scheme. "As the UK moves at pace towards net zero emissions, the initiative aims to raise awareness of the increasing number of zero tailpipe emission vehicles on UK roads," said the Department for Transport (DfT).
