Our mini model village is ready for your contributions - where will you add your building and will it be modern or traditional? The diggers are in, just need some young (and not so young) would-be architects to come and add some crafted model buildings built out of junk, card, glue/sellotape and a lot of imagination!
Join in our crafting sessions on Bank Holiday Monday to make some key buildings - which bit of our mini rural community will you add to? what do you think it need...s? Church? Pub? Sports pavilion? Library? Town Hall? You decide! 😃
There’ll be other ways to try your hand at building technology with activities to test your construction skills, including trying your hand at erecting one of our timber-frame models and having a go at wattle and daubing (if you're ok with getting messy) or Lego for those who like their construction a little cleaner!
There's lots more activities during the week on a recycle/up-cycle theme - see the website for details: http://www.avoncroft.org.uk/whats-on/even ts-programme/

Went to Avoncroft yesterday (29th September) as we had a Groupon Voucher

From reception through to the ladies in the Edwardian Tea room we had a fantastic visit.

What I liked was the introductory explanation as to how Avoncroft was set up and each building etc had it's own board explaining it's history, the people and how it was saved.

Especially loved the pre-fab house- brought back lovely memories

We had Leek & potato soup with a huge chunk of bread and at £4.50 was great value..thry also had delicious cakes on display too!

We loved visiting Avoncroft and will return

User

We went a few years ago with our first grandchild, yesterday we took another two, aged 2 and 4, they loved it and so did we , again, we’Re going back again in the school holidays with all three grandchildren, my two little ones took so,much interest in all the old exhibits, nothing like they have ever seen before. I would thoroughly reccomend it to anyone.

User

We visited as a family and was welcomed so well and treated wonderfully. Loads of things on for all the family. The staff was full of information and knowledge and really made the day a fun experience for all of us of a variety of ages. Thank you

User

We have been attending the Little Explorers group, led by TC on a Thursday morning, which is fun and interesting as well as educational. We then spend a relaxing few hours there each week, learning about various aspects of our heritage. Staff are enthusiastic and willing to spend lots of time chatting about different aspects of the museum. Annual pass is fantastic value for money and they have a lovely tea room too!

User

Visited the museum in the late summer, what a wonderful experience, hope to visit again in the early summer. A big thank you to Emma for helping us out today with our Wobbly Perry!

User

One of my favourite places, there is a wealth of history here and so much to see. Such contrast in the varying buildings and their stories. Friendly and helpful staff with volunteers to support and enlighten. We fell in love with this place so much so that we are getting married under the ancient beams of Gueston Hall next year!

User

My two boys love coming to avoncroft all the staff and volunteers are always happy and friendly and it’s just so lovely to see the history come alive. It can entertain and 9 and 4 year old for not just one day but lots of visits throughout the year.

User

My brother was treating me to a day out and when we arrived we realised it was Open Heritage weekend so he got away with a cheap day!!! But it would have been worth every penny of the normal entrance fee.

The introductory display was clear and informative and well worth a thorough browse.

All of the buildings and displays were excellent and so accessible. I love the phone box display and the manual exchange. Great fun.

Walking past the threshing house and through the granary brings you to a wonderful view of the windmill in a fabulous setting.

There are plenty of benches where you can have a picnic and the tea shop sells delicious cakes. The bread pudding is out of this world.

I could go on forever but if you're Bromsgrove way be sure to visit.

User

Loved it, went only because we had a Groupon deal. So excellent value for money. Thought every building was extremely interesting to know where it had come from. Nice that you can get really close up and in most of them. Beautiful windmill. Excellent added bonus of the telephone boxes. Fun idea to go on the train nice that's it's only 50p so everyone can use it if they want. Great friendly staff. Toilet facilities were clean, pleasant tea room.

User

It is a fascinating place, couldn’t believe the collection of telephone boxes and the telephone exchange. The buildings that have been rescued and restored with loving care are a walk through history. I loved going inside the prefab built after the war as my parents lived in one for a while. It evoked lots of memories and is extremely well laid out and well worth a visit as there is lots of information alongside each exhibit. Highly recommend

User

I went on a coach trip to Avoncroft Museum and although the weather wasn't brilliant I had a wonderfull time. The buildings and displays were brilliant and the volentears were very helpfull and informative.

User

Had an excellent day wandering around the exhibits. Fascinating detail about the windmill, lovely smell of wood smoke in a number of the houses. Good light lunch in the Edwardian tea rooms. So would recommend a visit.

User

Great couple of hours spent looking at all of the buildings. Loved the prefab as I was born in one and loved the way the garden were laid out with rows of vegetables and flowers it reminded me of my grandads garden

The tea room is beautiful and not too expensive. The windmill is worth braving the steps for. Just loved avoncroft would quite happily return .

User

Fabulous local history museum. The national collection of telephone kiosks and the fully working Strowger exchange topped off the day

User

Didn't know what to expect, my friend treated me to a day out, and I can't believe I've not been before, brilliant place, wonderful buildings with plenty of information, got caught in a thunderstorm in the windmill, very atmospheric, the lady in there was brilliant, lovely staff and great food in the tea room, will definitely be coming back 🙂👍

User

As it had been nearly 40 years since I had last been (primary school trip) I had planned to go for my birthday in March. Well I booked the Friday off to wake up to 6 inches of snow. Any bank holiday weekend we rearrange a visit. Beautiful weather and dry under foot. First we looked around the telephone box collection which was fascinating culminating with a proper Tardis police box. Spent a good half an hour talking to the gentleman in the phone exchange exhibit who was a former telecoms engineer and a very interesting gentleman. The prefab exhibit was fantastic as my friend’s grandmother had lived in one exactly the same. The smell was even correct. The small tin church was also amazing. As it was relatively quite we got a great look around and guide to windmill without being rushed. Overall the grounds were keep nice, the tea rooms were pleasant and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. Thank you Avoncroft.

User

Absolutely loved this place! Took my dog for a lovely walk around in the sun..plenty of open space and shade, and found lots of seating areas and space for picnics, really interesting! An outdoor area for the cafe would be nice to sit out with your dog.

User

A fantastic day at the air-cooled vw show set in the beautiful grounds of avoncroft museum. It was also good to see the bread oven working in the toll house and had a lovely chat to the gentleman who was working it. I certainly will be going back.

User

We've been really looking forward to our visit as we're from Shrewsbury & remember the String of horses being taken down brick by brick ready to go to your museum. We also wanted to see the other wonderful buildings as we're both history nuts.

So we decided to come for our Christmas treat & see deck the halls for some seasonal magic!!

What a complete disappointment hardly any decorations, your big tree (which had smashed branches) had 3 bits of tinsel that looked like they'd been thrown by a disgruntled elf, nothing looked ready & yet it started today the 5th Dec. Nothing like deck the halls more like wreck the halls!! What a wasted journey
