The theme of the conference is ŌĆśLooking to the futureŌĆÖ. While that includes the effect of new technology both in the administration of insolvencies and dealing with that technology in cases (Blockchain and De...aling with Cryptocurrency assets are two of the sessions IŌĆÖm attending), it also reflects the prospect of changing geo-political and economic world in which we live.
More and more insolvencies and corporate restructures (Whether formal schemes of arrangement, CVAs, Administrations or Liquidations-or indeed informal schemes) have cross-border issues. BBM are delighted to have the expertise and connections to advise in such cases where there is some Scottish element.
While there are not many of us flying the flag for Scottish Insolvency this week, the Key Note plenary speaker is Professor Richard Susskind, the President of the Society for Computers and the Law, and a Scot himself. Professor Susskind is an expert on the Future of the Professions and is always thought provoking-and in my experience generally has a good grip of what clients want.

Our insolvency and litigation team has a vacancy for an assistant solicitor (0-3 Years PQE considered) based in our Edinburgh office. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to work with our two directors and three associates based in both offices. The role will involve providing supp...ort to the directors and associates across a varied range of insolvency and general commercial litigation matters in the Court of Session, Sheriff Court and, where appropriate by ADR. In addition to insolvency the caseload will include property litigation, contractual disputes, and some debt recovery. We anticipate that, in time, the successful candidate will also have responsibility for managing their own caseload. We are looking for an able candidate with, strong litigation training, commercial court experience (both Court of Session and Sheriff Court would be helpful), client facing experience who has a sound awareness of the ethical duties of a solicitor. Experience of insolvency law would certainly be an advantage as a considerable proportion of the role may be insolvency related. Today we held our 5th Highland Accountants Conference. Around thirty accountants from across the Highlands attended Loch Ness Country House Hotel, Inverness, to hear updates across various areas of practice. Accountants often refer clients to BBM, particularly in specialist corporate, disputes and insolvency matters, and the conference gave an opportunity for BBM lawyers to spend time answering queries. The conference was chaired by our Managing Director, Eric and included, amongst other sessions, an economic update from Iain Duff, Deputy Agent, Scotland, Bank of England and a Session on Early Warning Signs in Corporate Decline from Iain Fraser, FRP Advisory LLP.

Trainee Solicitor: Wick Office: Immediate Start

That leaves a vacancy in our Wick based administration team for a full time Legal Secretary or Office Junior (willing to train to become a Legal Secretary).
Absolute discretion and confidentiality are essential for the role together with a...n excellent work ethic, IT skills and good written and spoken English. The role will involve significant amounts of audio typing, diary management and general administration support to our solicitors. You will also be required to post mail daily, assist with banking and deliver court documents when requested.
Hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm with an hour break for lunch. A full UK driving licence is required.
