Visited today for afternoon tea....absolutely scrumptious and by far the best Ive tasted. Everything Homemade and plentiful so much so I had to ask for a doggie bag. Only one thing I would maybe change is exchange one cake and replace it with a small savoury item ie quiche or goats cheese tart

Lovely cafe, nice decor, clean, friendly staff, cracking cappuccino and toasted teacakes, all with a sea view. What more could one ask for in life ??

User

I visited this place on Thursday with my sister. The service was excellent and the coffee excellent. I ordered some take away soup spicy lentil which was delicious. The supervisor was very helpful and really pleasant. Will definitely be returning. Thankyou.

User

I love this little coffee shop. The staff are lovely. We often go for breakfast which is delicious. I enjoy taking my parents there for delicious cakes and lovely coffee

User

I have been here on many occasions when my husband and I visit the seaside. It's our favourite place. Food always very nice and very pleasant and helpful staff. It's a very comfortable clean venue, no complaints from us!!

User

Great. Very friendly. Very close to closing time but still served us with a smile!

User

Had a lovely breakfast there yesterday with my daughter and grand daughters (they are regulars) it was my first time..we all enjoyed it and the lad serving us was very nice and helpful..cant wait to visit again...

User

1st time here, when entering I expected to be shown to a seat as it looked like that sort of place. It was full so waited at the door while others came in and sat down before us...staff were busy but should have realised what was happening? We managed to find a table at the back as people left we moved tables. I saw people coming in doing the exact same as us. Seems to be a bit of a problem there? As it wasn’t just me. Staff need to be aware of this and address this thanks. Staff nice but service very very slow. Cakes nice tea & coffee good.

But please people need to know as they walk into your lovely looking place if they need to wait for a table or help themselves to tables?

User

I have visited few times , occasionally eating but yesterday was for coffee only , waited quite a while, it was ok but a bit bitter , what did shock me was , a member of staff must have cleaning toilets /emptying nappy bins , these were taken out through the kitchen area, they were in tied refuse sacks but were quite see through , could clearly see what the contents we, surely they shouldn't have been taken out through the food serving area ?

User

First time we have been after hearing so much about it. Got there and the place was lovely; food was lovely and they were so accommodating with my slightly picky eating habits! Girl who served me my ice cream was so nice and seemed genuinely happy to serve customers and make sure they were happy. However, lady who served my Mam at the till was slightly short in her manner and seemed put out by the fact we asked for out refillable filter coffee later on.

Ordered a vanilla chai latte and when it was given to me, was told it was a spiced. Questioned it politely and was rudely told of the difference (something I already know being a barista and working in coffee shops myself)

I would come back again, but I definitely think customer service needs to be improved for future customers.

Been coming here for around 6 years. When we first visited, it was great ... the staff were lovely, very attentive and polite. The tables were cleaned for you if they didn't have time before you sat down. The food was gorgeous ... albeit you had to wait some time for it (not a problem as it was all freshly prepared so you expect to have a bit of a wait). The scones and coffee were the best in the area. I think it must have changed hands because most of the staff couldn't give a toss, they're always running out of items on the menu and the tables are usually dirty. It speaks volumes that 6 years ago you had to queue out the door to get a table ... now you can just walk in and take your pick. It doesn't pay to become complacent ... especially with 3 other cafes on your doorstep!!!

We went to beaches and cream yesterday (18/07/16) for the first time after hearing a lot of good things about the place I was excited to try it out. Myself, husband and 2 year old son fancied a spot of lunch and an ice cream. We arrived around 1:20 and were told there would be a half an hour wait for food, we agreed to wait because we were hungry and had a restless toddler, I was expecting great things with the fact it was busy. We ordered a jacket potato, a child's fish finger sandwich and a pesto and mozzarella panini. The first thing I was disappointed in was we were told there were no jacket potatoes left, ok I thought no big deal, so I then chose a tuna sandwich on brown bread instead. We waited 20 minutes for the drinks alone to arrive, 2 fresh orange juices and a coke! Then 40 minutes for our lunch. When it came the young lad brought out my husbands and child's food but swiftly left without saying where mine was. I then waited 10 minutes and my husband went and asked where mine was, eventually it came and the staff member told me "I'm sorry there was no brown bread so it's on white" I don't eat white bread as it hurts my stomach and I felt very angry that we weren't told this beforehand, we had already paid and I was starving by this point having waited 50 minutes for something as simple as a tuna sandwich. The sandwich was dry and just tasted straight out of the can with no mayo or flavour. Or child's fish finger sandwich was lovely because they made a little platter for him which I thought was a really nice touch and it had apple slices and strawberries, kiwi and pombears and cucumber on the side which was lovely and my son enjoyed. My husband said his food was "ok" but I was very disappointed. We decided to give it a fair go and thought we had been there that long what's another few minutes wait for some desert, so we stupidly ordered 3 ice creams. I got the banana split and my husband got a caramel Sunday thing, my son got one scoop of chocolate ice cream. Again this took absolutely ages! I blamed myself at this point for thinking other wise, 15 minutes later they came out again my sons and husbands, after waiting five minutes for mine a female member of staff came over to say they had run out of banana ice cream and was heading upstairs to get some more! 15 minutes later and my husband and son had finished their ice creams! Mine came out. The cream was tasteless on the top, loads of nuts and ginger in the ice cream (all stated on the menu) but it didn't taste as good as I thought it would. I didn't finish it and left feeling very annoyed. We left at around 3:40 which is absolutely ridiculous for arriving at the time we did. We won't be returning ever again.

User

We visited last Saturday mid morning. It wasn't busy at all with a fair few empty table, however we waited forever for 1 coffee, 2 teas and 3 scones. Customers came in after us and were served but we had " been forgotten" even though we had pre paid.

As locals my mum and visited again mid week and the service was poor again. I think we will be trying other establishments also on the doorstep!

Such a shame today was looking forward to a nice afternoon. Chose this cafe only to be bitterly disappointed. The filter coffee was luke warm, the latte was ok but small, the coke floats were so sweet they were undrinkable. I paid the first time with my contactless card. With my tiny Filter coffee you get a (ha ha) free refill. So when I returned to get my refill I ordered a second latte for my friend. I was told I couldn't pay by card this time.. as it was now under £5. I explained that the point of a contactless card is so you can pay any amount 10p if necessary... The lady behind the counter was very rude and started spouting about all shops she knows was over £5. I demanded to speak to the manager who mumbled something about the banks contract. I tried to explain to her that yes chip and pin some places put a £5 charge on but that does NOT apply to contactless transactions. They eventually accepted my contactless payment... They definitely won't be getting any others from me.. the manageress needs to read her banks contract and catch up with the 21st century!!!

User

Disappointing service! Ordered a filter coffee from the hatch and all the staff (incl manager) just kept looking at each other to do it and carried on with other jobs! 10 mins later they were all still looking at each other, before someone realised and told one of the junior staff to do it, who then rudely asked me if I wanted milk and sugar. A few minute later I'm still waiting before I just gave up and left! I mean - a filter coffee! It's meant to be something that's virtually ready and waiting! Judging by other comments on here slow/poor service is not uncommon! We used to come here for breakfast regularly, but think be taking business to Cullercoats Coffee from now on instead!

User

Disappointed. Took three attempts to get clean cups for tea, eventually had some bought to us that were soaked. Small part filled tea pots, had to ask for more hot water and it meant we ended up with just over a cup each. Milk jug obviously not washed between uses as crusts of milky cream around jug.

User

Visited here yesterday after passing a few times thinking it looked lovely, no one cleaned our table despite members of staff even leaning over the mountain of dirty dishes multiple times to places drinks etc on the table! (guessing left by more than just the people on the table before us as there was far more cups than chairs) Everything took ages to come, and when the hot chocolates came to our table they were barely warm, millionaires shortbread was nice, but had to ask for my daughters pancake which came a while after the drinks, then forgot her ice cream which was another wait, not nice for a hungry toddler, its not exactly cheap either so you expect some sort of quality, which just wasn’t there! A real shame, had been looking forward to trying this place out, What a waste of money!

User

Really disappointed. I have heard great things about this cafe so my family and I decided to try it yesterday afternoon. We ordered afternoon tea for my mother and I to share and a fish finger sandwich for my grandmother.

The "Stottie" was literally disintegrating when my grandmother tried to eat it, so she politely asked one of your waitresses to change it to a different type of bun only to be met with disapproving stares and a nasty attitude. She replaced the bun with the same type of bun ()and again it was falling to bits, my grandma ended up eating a couple of fish fingers and leaving the rest.

As for the afternoon tea, we were told we would have to wait 20 minutes for this which was fine. 30 minutes passed and the afternoon tea arrived, it would've been delicious if you hadn't served us cakes and scones that were still frozen. I took the cakes to your waiter as nobody came to ask how we were getting on, and all he said was "oh I'll show the chef" no new cakes or scones and nobody came to tell us what was happening until they came to take the plates away.

The same lady from earlier came and we raised our concerns to her saying we hadn't enjoyed it etc so she said she would bring the manager over. We waited another 20 minutes for the manager to come over who never arrived! We ended up leaving as we couldn't wait any longer, we'd already been in there a lifetime! The manager came running out the side door saying she was working in the kitchen and didn't have a chance to come see us (why the manager was working in the kitchen I'll never know).

After a very awkward conversation in the middle of the street with everyone staring we left disappointed and paid for an experience that was simply awful! Will not be returning!

User

Ordered hot drinks that took half an hour to arrive. The drinks were only warm but decided not to ask for fresh hot ones as we would have to wait again. The tia maria hot chocolate and orange chocolate drinks tasted like plain hot hocolates. Very disappointed especially at the inflated prices.

Disappointed. Took three attempts to get clean cups for tea, eventually had some bought to us that were soaked. Small part filled tea pots, had to ask for more hot water and it meant we ended up with just over a cup each. Milk jug obviously not washed between uses as crusts of milky cream around jug.
