Homes with no security measures in place are five times more likely to be burgled than those with simple security measures. Good window locks and strong deadlocks can make a big difference.
Taking just a few steps can make a big difference in keeping your home safe from burglary. Here are a few tips:
Lock your doors and windows every time you leave the house, even when you're just out in the garden, remembering to double-lock UPVC doors (lift handle and turn key)... Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letterbox (remember a device could be used to hook keys through the letterbox) Install a visual burglar alarm Install good outside lighting Get a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property Leave radios or lights in your house on a timer to make the property appear occupied

Keyless Vehicle Theft
Over the last few years there has been an increase in Keyless Vehicle theft. This is where offenders do not need the keys in order to steal the car.
Most vehicles that are taken without keys are stolen by using equipment that plugs into something called the OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) port. An offender will break a window and then gain easy access to the OBD port to effectively disable the alarm (which may also have gone off when they broke the window).
... This method effectively 'hacks' the car to bypass the security protocols in order to programme a new blank key and this whole process can take less then 10 secs !!
Thankfully devices are available that protect the OBD port from being 'hacked' and higher security graded (Thatcham approved) alarm systems are available that STOP any interference with the OBD port and provide greater resilience to the vehicle being taken.
It is therefore recommended that motorists consider installing 'enhanced' security systems that also protect the OBD port on their vehicles or install a device that will just stop interference of the OBD port.
There are many vehicle auto electrics companies that offer systems that can help protect your vehicle over and above manufacturer installed systems.

Lloyds customers should be on the lookout for a new sophisticated fraud that involves fraudsters sending fake bank letters.
The convincing letters being sent are a replica template from Lloyds and include their logo, address and signature from a customer service representative. The letter tells recipients that there have been some “unusual transactions” on their personal account and asks them to call a number highlighted in bold to confirm they are genuine. When victims c...all the number, an automated welcome message is played and the caller is asked to enter their card number, account number and sort code followed by their date of birth.Victims are then instructed to enter the first and last digit of their security number. The fraud was spotted by the Daily Telegraph who was alerted to it by a reader who had three identical letters sent to an office address. On separate occasions the Daily Telegraph ran some tests using fake details and were passed to fraudsters who claimed to be from a Lloyds contact centre. The bank has confirmed that the phone number and letters are fake. The letters are essentially a sophisticated phishing attempt and serves as a warning to consumers to question written correspondence from their banks.
If you are ever suspicious about correspondence from your bank you should call the customer serviced number on the back of their card. To report a fraud and cyber crime, call 0300 123 2040

We would like to draw your attention to 3 reports of stolen vehicles in Shirley and Dorridge in the last week. The vehicles were left with keys in the ignition whilst defrosting. Most insurance companies will not pay out if vehicles are stolen in these circumstances. Thieves will target areas on frosty mornings looking for an opportunity to commit crime. Please be vigilant and never leave your vehicle insecure with keys in and unattended. If you see anyone acting suspicious please call 101 or 999 if you believe an offence is taking place Thank you.
