About Breckland Forest Gymnastics Club

We are a recreational gymnastics club for children of all abilities aged 3 and over.

Breckland Forest Gymnastics Club Description

We are a recreational gymnastics club run by a committee and coaching team of volunteers. We offer classes for both boys and girls of all abilities aged 3 and over. The club is affiliated to British Gymnastics (BG) and Eastern Counties Gymnastics Association (ECGA); the annual membership fee includes membership to these organisations as well as to BFGC. The club is a member of the Community Sports Association.

What we do

Aims and objectives

We aim to offer classes that are fun and inclusive. During the classes children will work on more than just their gymnastic ability. We hope they will develop in many other areas such as concentration, coordination, co-operation, team work and improved social skills.

We have an extensive curriculum and a structured programme (see notice board) which covers all the aspects of gymnastics that we can facilitate. During weekly sessions children cover strands of the BG Proficiency awards, and awards 1-8 can be achieved.

We also encourage older gymnasts to assist with coaching, under supervision, to enhance their personal development and leadership skills.

If you would like to discuss your child’s progress, please speak to a coach after the session.

Parties

We hold parties for special occasions, so watch out for posters advertising events!
In addition, the gym and equipment can be hired for supervised ’Gym parties’. Speak to your coach for details.

Members’ commitment

We expect children to turn up on time to the classes wearing appropriate clothing. We expect children to have a positive attitude and show respect towards coaches and other gymnasts.

Parental Support

BFGC can only continue to provide Gymnastic training for children with the support of parents and friends. New members to the committee are always welcome. If you feel you can help with anything from cleaning to coaching, or have any comments and suggestions please speak to someone at the club. Alternatively come along to our friendly committee meetings, held half- termly at the club. See notice board for details.

Club History

The Breckland Forest Gymnastics club (BFGC) was founded in the mid 1990s and classes were held at Brandon Leisure Centre. In 2001, with support from Bill Bishop and Forest Heath District Council, the club moved to its own premises on the industrial estate.

Circumstances lead to BFGC closing in Spring 2004. With further support from Bill Bishop, Forest Heath District Council and Richard Spring MP, the club was reopened in October 2004. It was run by a volunteer committee of parents for the benefit of their children and others in the community. Some parents also trained as volunteer coaches. Through the efforts of parents and friends in the community BFGC has flourished for nearly 10 years.

In 2009 the club was nominated for the Club of the Year awards and was awarded a runner- up certificate.
