You've Got a Friend
This session is aimed at teachers/Teaching Assistants and anyone working with children who would like to increase their knowledge of picture books. The event will be hosted by Karen Morris who is the Senior Lecturer in Primary Education at Edgehill University and has inspired a generation of teachers on the topic of children's books.
Come and explore the theme of friendship within picture books whilst broadening your knowledge of current books & old favour...ites. We will be looking at how the theme of friendship is addressed in a range of different ways and think about how they can be used with children to foster an enjoyment of reading on this important subject.
In Mary Roche's book, Perry Nodelman says: ‘The combination of words and pictures is an ideal way to learn a lot in a relatively painless way.’ (1988:254)
The cost is £5, which is redeemable against any books ordered or purchased on the evening. You will have the chance to buy a drink/or cake.

Wow! We are so lucky to have Button and Bear in Shrewsbury! Went for the first time on Thursday for ‘Pottery and Story-time’ with my 7 week old son Arthur. We had a lovely time, the Woodland room is truly magical, what a fantastic space, we have already booked onto ‘Stories and Rhymes in the Woodland’ and are very much looking forward to coming back! The staff are super friendly and the bookshop is amazing (had to stop myself from buying everything!) I would highly recommend Button and Bear - coffee, cake and facilities are spot on!

User

Wow! Just reading the reviews. Never been and live far, far away but it looks and sounds absolutely wonderful. Well done to you for doing so well!

User

What an amazing little shop. I absolutely love having a place to take the children where they are safe and can run around, play and read. The atmosphere is so relaxed and the staff are so lovely and helpful. I will definitely be returning for more books, coffee and playtime.

User

What a wonderful place! My daughter attended a first aid course-such a good idea! - and loved it. The staff could not be more welcoming or friendlier. They really couldn't do enough for you. The cake was amazing and the play area for the youngsters - perfect. Thank you for a wonderful experiance and we will be back soon.

We have been to the Button and Bear on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Our latest visit was to see Jake Evans Storytelling downstairs in the play area. The facilities are excellent. Very clean and tidy and great value for money eg the above event only cost £5 for an hour and included free drinks for both the child and the parent. There are lots of books available and a cafe and play area upstairs too. The Button and Bear also cater for dietary requirements (vegan, gluten free) and have an assortment of cakes (the vegan brownies are just lush). The hot chocolate is also vegan. A very warm welcome awaits from Becky, Jessie and staff! Highly recommend this place for parents with children. :) x

We had such a fantastic Highway Rat birthday party for our 3 year old. Children there were from 2-7 and it was absolutely perfect. The book voucher at the end was such a lovely touch. Food and activities were amazing - everything was so well delivered and organised. Great to have a room to ourselves too. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

User

We had our my sons 1st birthday party here and I got to enjoy every magical moment . Definitely recommend parties, events and the cafe such a lovely place with amazing staff.

User

We absolutely love this book shop and the events that are held within it. They recently organised a Rainbow Magic party for our daughter's 6th birthday and it was fantastic. Everyone who works in the shop is so friendly and helpful, and the attention to detail was outstanding. So much thought was put into the itinerary for the party, and my daughter and her friends really enjoyed themselves. Charmaine was an amazing party host and had a lovely manner with all the children. The girls particularly liked doing their own drinks orders and going on a quest that resulted in chocolate coins. We cannot recommend this place enough - thank you!

User

This place is fantastic. My son had his birthday party here yesterday and the staff truly went over and above to make his party special for him. The party was based on a book and the activities were fantastic! (My favourite was the dinosaur eggs!) Such fantastic, caring staff and great value for money too. Will definitely be back for another party!

User

One of my favourite places in Shrewsbury. Such a well thought of concept. Amazing staff ,great hospitality, nice cosy play area for the kids, very engaging rhyme and activity times and woodlands room is simply the best. Will miss this place .

User

My son and I love the stories, songs and sensory fun sessions in the woodland. It’s such a lovely introduction to bookstores and the literary world. The team at Button and Bear have made us both feel very welcome to Shrewsbury, we are lucky to have it in the town.

User

My little boy Arthur and I love Button and Bear! We go every week and he loves playing in the play area and I love the coffee and cake! We recently had an awesome time decorating a Halloween keepsake- we made a pumpkin- in their woodland room. The staff are helpful and kind- Arthur loves Charmaine! Would totally recommend it. Thank you x

User

My and my little girl love it here! Always so friendly and the cake is to die for ! Definitely worth a visit

User

Lovely bookshop/cafe and a place to relax with the little Ines. These ladies go out of their way to accommodate you and your family. I highly recommend a visit and a piece of cake too!!

User

I truly mean it when I say, this is the most beautiful book store with a real traditional feel. Not only was the coffee and cake wonderful but the customer service was impeccable. My daughter absolutely loved it here and we were made to feel very welcome. I asked for recommendations for both my children and I left with 8 books 🙈 there was no hard sale and it was very apparent that the staff loved their jobs. Would recommend button and bear to anyone and we can't wait for our next trip there to one of their events!

User

I have attended a couple of events now at button and bear with my daughter and she has thoroughly enjoyed both! We are always made to feel very welcome and the woodland room is lovely! The staff are really friendly too!

User

I brought my two youngest girls to the ginger bread man, how fantastic it was! Both thoroughly enjoyed themselves and can't wait to return

Thank you so much to all involved you make the stories even more magical xx

User

Have walked past this shop a few times and finally had a chance to have a browse today. What a lovely selection of books. If maternity pay was more then I'd spend it all on the books! Nice little cafe area and play area, if I lived in Shrewsbury I'd visit this shop quite often. Great to see such a baby/child friendly/focused shop.
