A series of booklets serving as a photographic guide with accompanying text for all Thomas Hardy's major novels.

Barry Cade uses the photographs he took of the locations at the turn of the century when he spent a year living in Dorset. Each picture is accompanied by an explanation of its place in the story and where it can be located by visitors to the area. This first issue presents the two stories that are mainly set in and around Hardy’s Casterbridge, “The Mayor of Casterbridge” and “Far From the Madding Crowd”.

It is aimed equally at Hardy enthusiasts who already know the stories well; devotees living farther afield who may find it difficult to actually visit the region; but also readers keen to discover the delights of Hardy’s work for the first time.
