We visited from Winchester particularly to see the ‘Art of Perspective’ exhibition... what a fabulous place! We spent the whole day... the beautiful grounds, the well-informed and helpful staff, the café and particularly the art on show all added up to a truly wonderful experience. I really enjoyed the ‘Unsilencing the Library’ exhibit too. 😀

User

We spent a very enjoyable day here. Lots to do and see and an excellent cafe for lunch!!

User

We love compton Verney, we have an annual pass (just £24 a family if paid by direct debit) which is for upto 2 adults and 4 children, as long as the card holder attends they can take any other adult and children with them so ideal for taking kids friends / cousins etc.

My children love going here to play on the zip wire, run around the grounds and take part in whatever activities they have going on in the craft room.

Theres always something to search for outside too like giant birds nests you can get in or giraffes to search for.

They can let off steam and i can enjoy the beautiful grounds.

Its a fantastic place for a picnic but they have a lovely tea room too.

One for the family on a nice summers day...although we like it when the sun isnt so bright too!

Not just an art gallery but so much more and worth exploring!

We had our wedding day at Compton Verney a month ago and we couldn’t have wished for a better venue to hold our special day! Nothing was a problem, the staff were so accommodating, the food and catering staff were fantastic and Anona, our wedding coordinator.....well!!! What an amazing woman to work with!! I have never known anyone to help me as much as she did. Anona listened to my lengthy list of “must haves”. She spent so much of her own time making sure everything was perfect for us and her patience and soft nature was just wonderful to work with. I was one very lucky bride to have her as our wedding coordinator and we will truly remember her for all of her help on our day for the rest of our lives.

The security were perfect, they were there the second something was needed without us even noticing.

The venue is so so so stunning even on a grey day like ours, my only wish is that we could do it all again.

Thank you for everything!

We had a fantastic day yesterday. Compton Verney invited Warwickshire Badger Group to be involved in their National Meadows Day, and we had a great time. We had a steady stream of lovely visitors all day all willing to participate in a treasure hunt and painting stones and learn about badger and wildlife conservation. The staff at Compton Verney were brilliant. Very helpful every step of the way. The grounds and gardens are a haven for wildlife and it's one of the best places to have a day out with the family. On Friday, I popped along to the new Automata exhibition and really enjoyed this also. Well done Compton Verney- keep up all the good work.

User

This is a wonderful place -- an art gallery in an Adam house, Capability Brown grounds with a flower meadow and a Buckminster Fuller dome.... for the kids, activity packs and a fine adventure playground. Oh, and a good cafe too.

User

Just got home. 2 tierd girls after running around looking for eggs hanging in trees , and a giant Rabbit and Carrot.

Fantastic Easter trail best we have been on for a few years.

User

An enjoyable visit to an excellent venue. The exhibits are pleasingly displayed by themes with a gallery for each theme. The main exhibition was likewise displayed in it's own large area. The way the house has been converted to accommodate the galleries is superb and there are areas allocated for educating younger visitors. The café area is bright and clean with a reasonable choice of menu. The gardens are an enormous pleasure and when dry should attract many nature lovers along with the attraction of the picturesque lake. Recommended.

User

A wonderful exhibition of Quentin Blake's work with a number of author's, beautifully displayed. It was good to be able to try and get inside the illustrator's head and learn how he worked. There were quite a number of children present at the preview and they loved recognising the different books. Unfortunately I didn't have time to watch the short film but will visit again; it's one of those exhibitions that are well worth visiting several times. "Lost Words" was a wonderful contrast with beautiful illustrations and wonderful art work on gold leaf. I found it thought provoking.

User

A jewel of a place. A very interesting exhibition, we came to see 'Art in Conflict', and permanent showings of exquisite paintings and Chinese artifacts. The surroundings are lovely, the chapel a little box of purity, the gardens cared for.

User

A great afternoon. The wonders of the marvellous mechanical museum to the ancient trees in the parkland. Two very tired girls with project ideas for home! Thank you

User

beautiful grounds. fantastic art. plenty to see and do on event days. highly recommend visit for children and well as adults. café gets very busy, which is ok in the summer as we sat outside. prob very busy run up to Christmas. we love it. as older couple we appreciated the little bus from the car park to the house.

User

We enjoy coming here. It takes an hour for us but the permanent collection of British Folk Art is well worth the effort. The English Portraits are too.

The walk through the park to the Entrance is fine as long as it’s not raining but on arrival at the house it’s so disappointing to have to first of all wend your way through the shop and cafe, with no real thrill of what’s to come in the galleries to excite you.

There is some disorientating confusion in the space inside and it misses an historical ‘lived in’ feeling I think, unlike the utopian geodesic dome project facing the Palladian facade on the opposite side of Capability Brown’s lake, which we enjoyed immensely.

User

The gallery/grounds and exhibitions -absolutely brilliant. The cafe - awful! Such a shame because the food was good but we had no idea where to stand to order, pre made sandwiches looked lovely but no labels as to what they were. The kids lunch pack consisted of half a sandwich, an orange juice (all they had left at 12 noon), a flapjack covered in berries and seeds that most kids wouldn't eat and a piece of fruit (either an apple or an orange -not a satsuma, an actual orange!!). Plus nowhere does it say what is included in the kids box, I had to ask two people before I could find out. Very poorly organised.

User

Lovely place and enjoyed the Park Life event - good things to do for children. Shame it wasnt a touch busier. Great adventure play ground that was great for 5 plus kids but not a lot there for our 2 year old. Lunch was nice in the cafe, if a touch expensive overall. The queueing and serving system felt like it needing speeding up and making clearer though - it seemed a little disorganised. Overall a very nice day out and we will return.

User

Just been to the most amazing exhibition just starting at Compton Verney called Seurat to Riley- the Art of Perception. Had lots of Victor Vasarley, 2 beautiful prints by M.C.Escher and much more. Just booked up to take my A level group on September. Very inspiring and just had an hour talk with very passionate and informed staff! Fantastic!!

User

Had an fantastic time at Compton Verney yesterday with a friend. Between us we have 2 and a half year olds and a 5ish month old.

There was loads to do and see for young ones, like the willow tunnels, the ice house, the sandpit and the play ground which catered for all ages. The gardener even let our boys water some plants with a watering can, which they were thrilled about.

We bought the annual pass for grounds and collections which was very good value for money. We had a great welcome by the reception staff who couldn't have been more helpful in answering a million and one questions (all around having young children!)

Hopefully after my very positive review of almost everything, the management will take on board some constructive criticism too. :-)

The cafe/restaurant is hugely overpriced! Average families cannot afford £6 for a very small panini (that was to take away, without the salad!). And very simple meals at £10! I really think you could do more to provide (and make money out of) takeaway savoury options especially in the summer when people like to sit outside in the grounds, like hot pasties etc. Child friendly options were limited. Sorry to say the service was awful too, incredibly slow and chaotic and it was not that busy.

We will be returning often to this wonderful price, but we will definitely be bringing our own food.

User

Great exhibition. Well worth the visit.

Not so keen on the new layout of the café. Used to like the tables on the side of the walkway now it feels less welcoming and there's no chance of having a "special" lunch with no restaurant.

The breakthrough to the shop has just taken away some of the space used for the really good cards.

Toilets by the entrance/exit need to be more regularly monitored.

User

We live on a neighbouring farm. Years ago a horse on the farm died following a firework display. Since then we have asked to be notified of upcoming fireworks. Compton Verney have not answered any requests, and the fireworks keep coming without warning, causing great distress to our livestock. Irresponsible when we all share the countryside.
