Architectural Award winnerThe 2019 Philip Webb Award architectural competition drew an impressive number of entries from schools of architecture across the country, addressing a fascinating range of historic buildings. This annual national award for recent graduates and Part 2 students at UK Schools of Architecture, encourages and celebrates the sympathetic re-use of old buildings and sensitive new design within historic contexts. The Society for the Protection of Ancient Bui...ldings (SPAB) judges shortlisted six schemes and awarded joint First Prize (£750) to Olivia Hellman from the University of Sheffield for her scheme The Dairy Factory, which proposes creating a working dairy unit and production facility within the derelict shell of a former calcining mill in the pottery town of Burslem, Stoke on Trent, a Grade II Listed building ctd architects helped conserve as part of a city-wide bottle oven restoration scheme some 15 years ago. ctd architects provided survey drawings as part of the support provided by Chris Hesketh, from the practice. https://www.ctdarchitects.co.uk/architect ural-award-winner/

Wasn't the Leek Blues & Americana festival a fabulous few days in Leek! You couldn't walk through town without hearing the wonderful variety of quality music drifting out of the multitude of venues in the festival.
ctd architects sponsored the Little Victor gig at the Foxlowe Art Centre. Little Victor, also known as ‘the Beale Street Bopper’ is a multi-award winning artist and producer. His shows are a mix of old-school blues, rock n’ roll and cabaret style antics.

An article on the restoration of Phoenix Works in Longton by Mark Milner owner of Kirkland Properties. The project involved conservation repairs and internal alteration to the Phoenix Works, a former Grade II pottery building, to create a mixed use development including retail units, office space and restaurant/café area.

Congratulations to our client North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare who achieved an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission following a recent inspection.
Inspectors found that the trust, which runs Harplands Hospital among other facilities and community services, made ‘a real difference to people’s lives’.

The annual ceremony recognises buildings across the region of exceptional architectural merit with winners taking the first step towards the coveted Stirling Prize later this year.
RIBA West Midlands director Deborah Walsh said: "I am delighted these... 15 buildings have been shortlisted for our 2019 awards and I congratulate the architects, clients and contractors who worked to produce such remarkable schemes.
"This incredible variety of projects are a testament to the imagination, talent, innovation and ingenuity not just of the architects but all those involved.
"They demonstrate the vision of the West Midlands to respond to today's challenges and design for the future, whilst where appropriate, respecting the past."
All shortlisted buildings will be assessed by a jury with the winning buildings announced at a ceremony at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on May 17.
All regional winners will be considered for a national award, to be announced in June, from which the shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize will be drawn.
