Today I had an induction at the gym with a personal trainer, it was to show me how to use some of the equipment etc. Going through some forms she asked me what brought me to the gym so I told her it was nothing I ever thought about doing but lots of people recommended it for anxiety. I've joined me and the kids, a few of the girls go to and absolutely love it, I would love to do some of the classes but I just can't bring myself to walk in to them, with my anxiety I don't do anything on my own. She actually said to me she's off Friday morning and will meet me outside the studio and come along to legs, bums and tums with me. I just think it's amazing of her to offer to come in on her at off to do a class with me because I'm anxious. She's not getting paid any extra for it and didn't offer for anything else than to be nice. What a lovely member of staff, there should be more people like Annie

This is not a conventional review, but an acknowledgement of the speedy and compassionate behaviour of some of the David Lloyd cheadle staff members yesterday.

I'd just got out of my car to go for a meal with family in the cheadle Royal restaurant when an alarmed woman shouted for help and asked me to find a defibrillator for a man experiencing a cardiac episode in the car. She was on the phone to 999 who instructed this. I ran into David Lloyd, an immediate tannoy announcement went out and several members of staff ran back with me to the woman's car.

The man was thankfully conscious, and your staff stayed until the ambulance arrived and departed. Throughout this, one member of staff (dark hair) moved the young child who was in the back of the car away from the scene, and patiently engaged with her for a considerable amount of time, chatting away, asking questions and diverting attention from what was going on in the car. This man deserves special recognition, as do all the staff who responded so quickly and efficiently yesterday. :)

Love being a member here again, first joined in 2005 (pre children) and as then / was a welcoming place to not only could work out at but feel as a place that I could either relax or even log on and do work whilst there.

Fast forward 11 years and with 3 children little has changed in terms of atmosphere, feel like the staff want to know you, and the personal trainers want to help you achieve your fitness goals.

I currently play a high standard of competitive sport (rugby) so this is not a whimsical or contrived report, just feel it necessary to put 5* as this is most definitely the best place / fitness group to be involved in if you pride yourself in wanting the best and expecting value for £

Thanks

Ps. 6am start works!

Chris Mcguire is a no frills ,get down to it , results kind of PT

A perfect example of how david Lloyd pt should be

Reliable and extremely motivational when the going gets tough for that extra push when you need it

On first impression it is lovely I have been a member for three months. The pool is really nice but can often be cold when the weather is colder and the spa pool isnt often very warm which defeats the object it is out of order quite often as well .... the food is poor I would agree I have had to send it back a couple of times because it was cold.

I feel that the club prioritises families it is full of children all of the time in the evening they even do home work and run around in pyjamas. You are unable to relax in the pool area until after 8pm which is when children have to be out.

The Salsa class on Saturday morning is excellent but there is only one a week so it gets quite busy ...other classes are quite good too but seem to be mainly high intensity ones at the times when I can go ...

I am still deciding whether to continue. When you get to know it it feels it cuts corners to save money and it is not a cheap to join. Best to try it yourself I would say

My family have been members here over 10 years now, unfortunately the club has been in rapid decline for the past 4 or so years it is in dire need of refurbishment as it is way behind all the other gyms! Standards have been allowed to slip in this period. Some members/ temporary members are allowed to treat the gym like a tip, kids eating food in the outside pool, then being sick more recently. Seating in the club restaurant in disgusting, so many stains! There seems to be no respect for the club which needs to be brought back.

User

Showers regularly don't work. Membership fees increase on an annual basis, with no clarity on how the extra monies are being spent to improve the facilities.

User

I would agree about the maintenance of the Club. The worst part is the PIGEONS on the tennis courts - ongoing for over 2 years. The smell is indescribable, and it's a real health and safety issue, which is now being reported by a group of member to the Health and Safety Executive.

Then there is gym which is not checked and it can take months to get anything done; the tennis courts are in a very poor state, very stained, with very ripped side nets making accidents inevitable (they have happened, with injuries caused, maintenance is outstanding on windows not opening from the week the Club opened (reports over 12 times), gutters leaking above and below on the outside pathway (reported at least 10 times), I could go on and on and on....

User

Waring all members beware of hidden terms, with David Lloyd membership known as rolling contracts in the small print. If you fail give the club 3 months notice additional charges will apply, and the matter passed on to a debt collection agency.

This club is poorly run by the GM - and by DL Head office - a complaint I logged and escalated as not dealt with fully by the GM has been ongoing for months - they do not respond to any email or social media posts - it is such a shame as this GYM has so much potential - the spin facilities and Bob the instructor are the best I have been to in the UK...… shame attitude of the management team is just so lacking! Its a shame they don't deal with issues promptly as you would not have to waste your time and effort continually trying to bring this to their attention continually.... tried email - twitter - Instagram and now facebook …

User

The temperature in the downstairs gym is offensive. There is no cool air coming out of any of the 'air conditioning'. Customers are paying circa £100 a month for a lesser service than the likes of Pure and Fit for less which cost a fraction of the price.

It is a fundamental part of a gym service and needs to be rectified and prioritised ASAP.

Also please don't just respond with comments such as its an exceptionally hot day. It's humid and stuffy here all summer long.

Please don't just wait until September when it's cooler and hope everyone forgets about it until next year when we will all have to suffer once more.

Thanks. (10+ years a member)

The club is not the same as it used to be and is in need of a refurbishment. The club is out of date and with the annual price increases for a new ball pit in the kids area and new menu in the restaurant, I am not getting any benefit from this. I have asked the club numerous times on why prices have been increased and yet to get a straight answer. The thing that does need improving are the gym facilities but yet, it has been several years since this has been done. The hot water is not consistent and many times during the year, there is no hot water. The weights area is like a sauna during the summer and has been for many years. I don’t get how you are meant to workout without sufficient air conditioning, surely this is a H&S issue also. My cancellation has been handed in and look forward to going somewhere else that is more value for money.

Really disappointed by David Lloyd Cheadle, spent the time rushing here in busy traffic for your Ashtanga Yoga class to wait 15 minutes in the room with 12 others to find out the instructor hasn't turned up. The manager who eventually turned up after people from the class alerted reception took no responsibility as "it's nothing to do with David Lloyd" and "the instructor is responsible for finding their own cover, it's nothing to do with us." Great. What a waste of time. Pretty sure it's David Lloyd I pay my (expensive!) membership fee too and not the instructor and would expect better customer service.

User

Incompetent customer service. I have been waiting almost 4 weeks for a membership refund in spite of multiple promises that it is being processed. Now having to take legal action to get my money back.

User

Hi David Lloyd Cheadle. I’m still waiting for a clear and logical explanation as to why you haven’t replaced the back hyper extension machine. This is a machine you historically had and that other David Lloyd clubs have; and despite putting up my membership fees (again) you have not replaced this.

I have contacted you, your gym department, membership team, elusive club general manager and even head office (per your process) and despite the promise of an explanation dating back to June 2017, I am still waiting!

My experience has found that no one in the club is taking any accountability or responsibility for this issue, that you have repeatedly broken your own promises (eg of call backs), and that with increasing prices / degradation in service, you are no longer proving value for money relative to other David Lloyd or rival clubs.

A club that charges premium prices should match this by offering a premium service throughout, including addressing member queries and escalations, and not ignoring them, hoping that by putting their fingers in their ears they’ll go away (as this seems to be the gist of your approach...).

Being a member here in 2015/16, and getting banned by the gym after i got viciously attacked. They called it a brawl. 2 incidents where i defended 2 elderly people getting verbally abused by 2 other gym members. I was attacked in the gym by the 3 guys, the gym called it a brawl. There were no cctv cameras in the weights area otherwise everything would have matched my version of events. Felt so let down by the gym hierachy and there security, other than this i enjoyed my time at the gym and made so many friends.
