Words cannot describe how BLOWN AWAY we are with our conversion !!! 3 weeks ago it was a dirty work van !! Transformed miraculously into a gorgeous campervan !! We had our first T5 converted 5 years ago by Johnny, Katie & the team at DW and the whole experience was fantastic. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very skilled at their trade, we ended up with a top quality conversion that we enjoyed for 4 years. This year, we went back to DW and ordered a brand new LWB van & conversion which we are now proud to own.

I am pleased to say that the quality, innovation & enthusiasm is still there in spades & yet again, we have had a wonderful experience designing the van & seeing it take shape.

We are now the proud owners of a T5 all thanks to dirty weekenders , love it cant wait to start our adventures and hopefully meet some more owners along the way :)

So how did our adventure start….It was the summer of 2015, Eastnor Castle at the Camper and Bus Magazine show. A friend came with us in Skye our trusted T5 Campervan for the weekend. At the time she was thinking of buying a camper. We went around all the event shelters talking to a few people, and then we saw Dirty Weekender Adventure vans. We were having a look around at some lovely spec vans with original ideas and got talking to Johnny enjoying a beverage that may have contained alcohol! Even though our friend was the one looking to find a good conversion company we started talking to Johnny and Katie about us looking to get a California but we had concerns as it was a SWB and the interior was a little bland for us.

The more we talked to Johnny and discussing ideas and what they could do, the more we decided that a new van and conversion was suited to us and it was important to us to find the right converters to do it. Even though we love our beloved Skye, we didn’t have the best experience with the company who converted her, and we knew pretty much straight away that DW were passionate and proud of the work they do. 4 weeks later after reading many online reviews and looking at their stunning conversions we had a meeting with Johnny & Katie at DW HQ.

We had a design in mind, more for the exterior than interior at this point, we had seen pictures of the T6 Generation SIX at the Frankfurt launch of the VW T6 and fell in love with the Red & White two tone paint job. Our minds were set on what we wanted, although we weren’t sure if it was something DW could do or would want to do, slightly nervously we gave them our idea and to our delight they said it was something they could do for. 5 hours later……we worked out our plan of attack & paid our deposit, our DW adventure was beginning. Delighted with our meeting and the thought of our dream becoming a reality we left DW HQ walking on air.

The interior was the part we had to have a think about as far as design, appliance spec & finish. We knew from owning our T5 that we wanted a larger fridge, separate hob & sink units. We did a good bit of research and compiled a list of the appliances we wanted. Sam even did a drawing of the layout we wanted, which I believe Johnny is thinking of getting framed….As with most projects things evolve along the way, Johnny kept us updated and involved with any design changes or augments that maybe required to get everything we wanted to fit, at first it was hard to understand what Johnny was saying on txt, i.e. pics with fingers pointing at things and emoji all over the place but we soon got the gist and looked forward to receiving his texts with updates and pics of the work in progress and completed.

We made a few more visits to DW HQ to see the van in various states, pre-paint, post paint & to go over designs and layouts, every time we did what we thought it would be about an hour meeting but it would last a good few hours, this showed us even more how passionate Johnny and the guys are about their work and making their customers dreams, or in our case drawings on paper & brochure pictures, into a reality.

With the exterior we wanted the van to look like the Generation SIX, this is where Sam comes in, he spent hours day & night for weeks upon weeks upon weeks looking at various websites for the cosmetic parts to make our van look as close as possible to the Generation SIX,, This habit became known as Sam’s Camperporn searching! He does promise me that’s what he was looking at! Once he had found an item Katie or Johnny would get a call or txt from him advising them of the new find. Johnny and the team must have thought it was Christmas every day or maybe Armageddon when a box would turn up for Sam with some other part to fit! Joking aside we felt very involved in the build and in a way part of the team that made our van what it is.

Hours, days, weeks & months passed by until the day it came to collect our van, DW Day! The night before was like being a kid on Christmas Eve, we couldn’t wait to be on our way to DW to see our van fully completed and take her home with us. The butterflies in our stomachs were having a rave to end all raves as we pulled up, the DW team were outside working enjoying the sun and hot temperatures, and it was great seeing the team as they all played a large part in our build Nervous and very excited at what we were about to see our palms were sweating! We weren’t disappointed at all, sitting in front of us was a VW Generation SIX Campervan to all intent, she looked stunning from the floor up and from the outside in we couldn’t be more happy, chuffed, ecstatic, I could go on and I will, elated, over the moon, has happy as a pig in s**t and lots more superlatives to mention on how we feel about our van and our experience with DW.



Now listen or in this case read, If you have a dream campervan in mind and you want that dream to become a reality, do what we did and go see Johnny, Katie & the DW Team, even if you don’t know what you want or require still go see them as they give great advise and ideas, nothing is too big or too small for the DW Team. Although I think Bongos are out of the equation…..

From this amazing experience not only have we got our fantastic campervan (Skye Baggs), we have also made amazing new friends. We’re looking forward to meeting up with the DW Team & their customers both old & new at DW camping events in the coming months & years

Johnny is a top bloke, always friendly and had loads of advise. He is a perfectionist and this shows in the quality of work carried out on our van. Highly recommend!
