I am a highly qualified and experienced music teacher and performer based in Staffordshire.

Available to sing at weddings, special events, church services, funerals and concerts, I have a Mezzo-Soprano vocal range, with styles including classical, cabaret, a cappella, musical theatre and opera. I am also a classically trained pianist, available as an accompanist for grade exams (any instrument) and concert performances. Please contact me for availability and pricing.

I have worked for many years as a peripetetic music teacher, offering singing, piano and keyboard lessons in Staffordshire schools through Entrust Music & Performing Arts.

I offer private tuition for singing and performance, piano, keyboard, aural training, and music theory, teaching in various styles and to different exam requirements. Students from all ages and skill levels are welcome. I am patient, friendly, personable, good with young children, and passionate about helping you attain your goals - whether that is achieving a grade, practising for a performance, or just learning something new!

I teach the following grade work:

Piano (ABRSM, LCM & Trinity College London)
Classical Singing (ABRSM & Trinity College London)
Music Theory (ABRSM)
Popular Music Vocals (LCM)

I also offer supplementary aural training to pupils studying other music qualifications.

I am trained in safeguarding children, and hold a DBS (Enhanced) Certificate. I am also a Licensed Chaperone.

The start of a new year is a good time to think about practice and progress! So, with that in mind, here are some of my top tips!
[Image Text Transcription:
Practice Tips with DLP Musique
... 1. Practise regularly! 15-20 minutes on most days of the week is much better than a longer practice just before your next lesson!
2. Practise somewhere you can focus! When it comes to practice, location can make all the difference - make sure you’re somewhere quiet, without any distractions, and where you won’t have to rush!
3. Warm up! Whether you’re singing or playing an instrument, warm-ups and exercises improve your technique, help you to avoid injury or strain, and help you to get in the zone. You wouldn’t run without warming up – so why would you play or sing without it?
4. Don’t always start from the beginning! Sometimes start with a bar or phrase you know needs improving. Breaking a piece down into small sections and gradually putting it back together is an excellent way to speed up progress!
5. Refer to your notes! Your notes and your teacher’s comments will help you to focus on what needs improving, as well as see where you’re doing well – reading them before and after each practice can be a huge help!
6. Posture is key! Poor posture can affect your breathing and strain your muscles – make sure you’re thinking about your posture and your correct sitting/standing position!
7. Record yourself! From time to time, it’s worth recording yourself playing or singing to get a new perspective – it can be enlightening!
8. Don’t allow frustration to creep in! If something just isn’t working, leave it and come back to it – whether later on during your practice, or after your next lesson if necessary.
9. Enjoy yourself! Above all, singing or learning your instrument should be fun. Don't expect too much too soon - relax and have fun with it!]

Through Diane's teachings I found my great love for music from keyboard lessons and joining both her choirs to successfully completed my Grade 8 in both classical and musical theatre singing exams. She has invaluable knowledge and experience which I highly recommend!

User

I've been a keen follower of her career since I was seventeen and she introduced me to the delights of Eric Satie and more ....her passion for music is intoxicating and her ability to infuse this passion in others is simply astonishing .... not only that but she is very sympathetic and encouraging to beginners allowing them to feel at ease and to instill the belief of possibility ...why Diane can even keep a smile when i play the piano .. and believe me that takes some doing ....

I have had Diane as a singing teacher for 7 years. In which time she has helped me grow as a classical singer. Without her support and dedication I would not have been able to achieve a distinction in my grade 7 classical singing! I also would not have known about or had the confidence to audition for young singer of the year. Of which, without her help,I would not have managed to come in second place.Thank you for inspiring me to never stop singing. I strongly recommend Diane for anyone thinking about taking up classical singing.Thank you for 7 years of excellent teaching ,bring on grade 8!! X

From a young age I had always wanted to learn how to sing and was delighted when I was given the opportunity to have lessons with Diane. Diane taught me for 5 years developing from a complete beginner to a Grade 8 Classical Singer achieving Distinction in my final exam.

Diane fuelled my love and passion for singing always pushing me to achieve my best. Through Diane’s incredible teaching, constant encouragement and wonderful musical knowledge I was constantly strengthening and improving with every lesson. Not only have I learnt how to sing to a high level, I have learnt how to perform and engage with an audience, I have developed theory knowledge and the confidence to perform in front of an audience.

The experience Diane gives every individual is a truly unique one and is partly the reason I chose to continue my singing at University. Without Diane I would not have studied a Music Degree majoring in Classical and Opera Performance. I am still using Diane’s warm up techniques and singing techniques as I believe they really are the best. Thank you Diane!

Dianne is a fabulous teacher. Highly recommend her.

Diane is an inspirational teacher who has made me believe, after more years than I care to mention, that I can improve my playing and will achieve an elusive goal which has haunted my musical development to date. She has phenomenal patience and her gently encouraging manner whilst teaching fingering patterns I should have learned decades ago are a testament to her skills. If I could give her 6 stars I would!!

Diane is a hugely talented musician, performer and teacher. She has taught four of my children over the years - piano , musical theatre and as members of a choir .She has developed them as musicians and maintained their love of music by tailoring lessons to suit their individual needs and by keeping music fun!

Two are now studying music /performance at diploma and degree level which I'm sure is down to her consistent hard work and enthusiasm.

Diane is also highly qualified to teach music theory .She successfully coached me through my grade 5 exam using innovative and fun teaching techniques .
