About Dogwood Adventure Play Private Hire Enclosed Fields, Training & Walking

Dogwood Adventure Play has two purpose built secure fields available to hire on a sole-use basis. We also provide walking, training and enrichment services.

Dogwood Adventure Play Private Hire Enclosed Fields, Training & Walking Description

Welcome to the north East's first Dog Adventure Park!

Dogwood Adventure Play is set across seven acres of countryside and comprises of two enclosed fields and a training paddock. Our purpose-built fields are available for you and your dog to hire on an individual basis all year round, seven days a week.

Ideal for dogs that cannot be let off lead in public places – perhaps because they don't enjoy meeting other dogs, or for those that don’t have great recall skills, puppies or adult dogs who need to work on training in an enclosed environment, owners of rescue dogs who would like to bond with their new companion, or anyone else who enjoys watching their dog run free.

Bring a ball or your dog's favourite toy, make use of the Adventure Play frames or just relax while your dog sniffs and explores the fascinating environment rich with scent.

You have exclusive use of the field during your booking. Our coded double-gate entry system and carefully timed slots mean that you won’t be disturbed. In-field parking allows you to lock the gate before letting your dogs out of the car.

Adventure Play equipment is provided to increase confidence, range of motion, strength and balance in dogs, while the Sensory Garden is made up of a variety of smells and textures which reduce stress and anxiety, encourage dogs to be more secure in their surroundings, and provide additional stimulation and enrichment.

Your dog was born to run and play, and at Dogwood you can give him what he needs whilst you can enjoy a brand new, relaxing, stress-free adventure walk with your best friend.

Come to our Open Fields Day to find out how you can join our private and exclusive dog adventure community.

Recovery the Dogwood way.
Lao had a cyst and lipoma removed from the same place and looks as if half his neck was taken with it (the vet was amazing but she had to cut a lot out to hopefully prevent it returning so he looks like Frankenstein’s monster), Fifi - as well as being the birthday girl - had her epilepsy meds increased and so was a bit wobbly... and I was working so hard I was close to burnout. We celebrated Fifi’s birthday and then instead of all the jobs on the list, we sat down. In the sun. Looking up at the bright blue sky. No field maintenance, no games, no training, no parkour, no studying, we just sat and then laid on the grass. And did nothing.
Dogwood is here for you if your dog - or you - is recovering from injury or surgery... or just needs a bit of Dogwood downtime.

Game-based training is growing in popularity. Recently we had the pleasure of attending Craig Ogilvie’s Interactive Play Workshop.
Many of us find that we can’t communicate with our dogs when they are over stimulated by something in the environment such as another dog. Craig teaches play as a means of building better relationships with our dogs so as to be able to communicate with them while they’re in a heightened state of stimulation.
‘’Everyone thinks of play as something... that the dog will just do but you’ve got to teach it exactly the same way as you would do anything else.’’
It's an interesting concept that we train to play and play to train.
We highly recommend delving into Craig's work or booking onto one of his workshops if you can.

One of our lovely customers who has been with us since the beginning has done an amazing thing and opened a truly dog friendly holiday cottage in Thwaite. The best part is that they are offering a discount just for us Dogwooders - 3 nights this Autumn for £200 (usually £240) - please quote Ref: DGWD01. Longer stays available with 10% discount quoting DGWD02.
We're looking at dates as we speak to book in with our own dogs.
We wish Leigh, Mike and Murphy all the very best of lu...ck with their fantastic new venture!

We were in the Gazette this week talking about Dog Parkour, or as one clever comment put it, Barkour.

Perfect dog walking weather today - bright and sunny but not too hot. Can't wait for our 1-1 Field Trips later today!
The newest news just in: we now have an outer gate! You do not need to lock this behind you when you leave (except the last appointment of the day) but for added security this means you can now lock yourself in twice so you won't be disturbed by people 'coming to have a look'. The next appointment will of course still be able to get in so we'll just take this... opportunity to issue a friendly reminder to please not enter the car park more than a couple of minutes before your appointment is due to start.
The Ts and Cs have been updated to reflect the new gate:
''Outer gate: it is your choice whether you lock yourself in or not. You do not need to lock this gate when you leave except the last appointment of the day (7pm Spring/Summer, varying Autumn/Winter - we will inform you).''
Now we're off to make the most of this beautiful day! To everyone with appointments at Dogwood today... enjoy x

What do we do all day while your dogs are enjoying the field? We were interviewed by Buddies Pet Insurance to answer that exact question.

FIELD TRIPS, our dog walking service launches 17th September!
Would you love to know that your dog is exploring a secure and enriching natural environment while you're at work or out for the day?
We collect your dog from home and transport them to Dogwood Adventure Play in our customised vehicle. Your dog will spend time playing, discovering, following scents and building enrichment by practicing canine parkour - as well as relaxing in our Sensory Garden. Muddy paws are clean...ed before returning home tired and happy. We'll even send you Pupdates of your dog enjoying themselves.
Would your dog like to be the only one enjoying the field? Or do they love to socialise? We provide services to suit individual needs.

Yesterday a lovely lady phoned to enquire whether there are any breed restrictions at Dogwood. Our fault for not shouting it loud and proud enough: all breeds are welcome from the small and fluffy to the big and bully. It's usually not body conformation that determines the experience you'll have with a dog but body language.
All breeds welcome. All dogs deserve the chance to enjoy off-lead freedom ❤️
