Some fantastic shots from Saltwells yesterday courtesy of Martin Weaver

Thanks to Meadows School who visited Saltwells yesterday for some den building activities. They practiced by building a "House for a mouse" before moving on to make dens for themselves.

Its a great time of year to keep an eye out for Bullfinches across the reserves. As the trees start to bud these secretive finches can often be seen eating the young buds from the tops of trees.

Teams are back out on site today assessing damage after Storm Ciara. Please let us know if you find anything on the reserves.

A great spot today at Fens Pools LNR with a treecreeper which hasn't been recorded since 2017. Treecreepers are an elusive little woodland bird. As its name suggests this little bird creeps up tree trunks, probing the bark for insects with its needle-like bill. It feeds by spiralling round and up a tree trunk, then dropping down to the base of an adjacent tree to repeat the process. Another great spot was a kingfisher flying through the canal corridor and a male shoveller on Fens Pool!

Thanks to our student volunteers from Dudley College for their hard work today clearing off this flight of steps ready for replacement over the next few weeks.
