Today would have been Edwin Hill’s 91st birthday. It is also E Hill & Son’s 59th year. Quite an achievement. Not only did Edwin carry out funerals but he also did wedding cars with his wife Roslyn. He even helped brides with their wedding dresses. Richard Hill has been a funeral director now for 32 of those years. He has quietly looked after Pershore families and the surrounding villages at a time when bereaved families needed help most. I am very proud of him and our team. Thank you to the families that have entrusted us with their loved ones. Happy birthday Dad, and here’s to the 60th year of E Hill & Son.

The British Heart Foundation presented us with a certificate today for helping raise money towards the fight of cardiovascular disease. Thank you to the families that chose this charity to make this possible. 💕

Richard and myself had the privilege of attending The Royal British Legion Pershore Branch 90th Annual Dinner at the Oak Inn Defford. It was a lovely evening . Remembering old comrades and celebrating the young cadets. A good amount of money raised. The food and company were excellent. Keep up the good work 🇬🇧

It’s a year since this lovely lady joined our team at E Hill & Son. She has worked extremely hard, given her heart to families and is a great asset to our team. We are very proud. She ran the London Marathon last year and is doing it again this year for charity. Well done Jo and thank you👌💕

As we spring forward into Summer and the morning brings Mother’s Day, we have in our thoughts those of you without your mum and the mums that have sadly lost a son or daughter. Tomorrow, think of a special moment that you had together, hold it in your heart and then smile all day. 💐💕

Having a sort out and got waylaid looking at some of our thank you cards. Very humbling💕

Been looking back on old times and came across these from our dinner dance in 1999. Richard was Chairman and we raised £300 for St Richard’s Hospice. 20 years on we are still supporting our community.

With the permission of the family, here are a few pictures from little Olivia's funeral service that took place in Pershore Abbey. Our horses, Pluto and Kurioso not only looked fabulous in pink but behaved impeccably well too. A journey fit for a little princess.

The end of 2018 is near, and we at E Hill & Son would like to thank all of our staff for their loyalty and integrity. It has been a tough year but as a team we have come through, old and new. Richard and I are very grateful. We know for many people that this year has been hard, and we wish you all a peaceful 2019. You are very much in our thoughts💕

It's 11 years today since this lovely gentleman Edwin passed away. He founded E Hill in 1960 and his son Richard Hill became part of the family business 32 years ago. I was privileged to have Edwin as my father in law and even more so to have Richard as my husband. The service he provides for bereaved families, with the support of an excellent team, is second to none. I know that his father would be extremely proud as am I. In 2020 we will hopefully reach the milestone of 60 years serving Pershore and the surrounding areas. Quite an achievement I think in today's society. Richard and I are grateful to you Dad. Hope you are having the rest you deserve .God bless you.

Richard and I were very privileged today to be invited to Wood Norton Hall near Evesham to have a look around and see what they offer for our families after funeral services. Well we were extremely impressed. Thank you to Steve the General Manager and Taylor for their hospitality. A beautiful venue for any family considering sharing happy memories following a funeral service.

The Vale Crematorium and Mr Hugh Homer.
As most of you know, we at E Hill & Son Funeral Directors have been keen supporters of the new Vale Crematorium at Fladbury Cross near Pershore. We feel that there has been a genuine need for a new Crematorium in the area for some time. With the population growing, due to the myriad number of new houses being built in and around Evesham and Pershore, the infrastructure is needed. Worcester has also expanded greatly over the last few ye...ars and its Crematorium struggles to keep up with the demand at peak times. Only this year we had a sustained period of six months where we were waiting on average up to 4-5 weeks for a cremation time. It was unacceptable for families to have to wait that long before they can formerly say goodbye to their loved ones.
At long last, the new Vale Crematorium opened on Tuesday 11th December 2018 and we were privileged to be the first Funeral Director in the area to have a cremation and hold a service there. It’s ironic really, despite there being a lot of opposition from local people, there were also some strong supporters too. Mr Hugh Homer lived a stone’s throw from the new Crematorium and since losing his wife earlier on this year, decided that when anything happened to him, he wished to be cremated there. This was ok, except that Mr Homer died on 24th October 2018, some six weeks before the Crematorium was finished. The family were keen to honour their father’s wishes but could not wait that long for a formal service to take place. A funeral service was arranged at Fladbury Church for 8th November and afterwards Mr Homer was brought into our care again, to await the completion of the Crematorium. Little did he know that he would be making history by being the first person to be cremated at the new Crematorium. His cremation service took place on Tuesday 11th December at 10am and was attended by about 60 family and friends, who were all impressed with the new chapel. It was a bright and frosty morning and the view from the Crematorium of Bredon Hill was stunning, a fitting tribute to a local man.
I am sure the new Crematorium will be of benefit to bereaved families and Funeral Directors alike. It has the most up to date facilities and has been aesthetically built to fit in to its surroundings. It will certainly cut down on waiting times at peak periods and will ease local people’s travelling times too.
My grateful thanks to Mr Homer’s family for allowing me to mention him in this article.
