About Encounter Church

Encounter Church is a vibrant Elim Pentecostal Church. We currently have two locations; Selly Oak and Weoley Castle. We want people to have a positive encounter with Jesus and his people through our presence in the city and beyond.

Encounter Church Description

Due to the current climate, all Sunday services are now live streaming online via Youtube. Go to www. encounterchurch. uk to join us at 10. 30am every Sunday.

Elim Church Selly Oak was founded in 1936 (2006 was the church's 70th anniversary), born out of Birmingham's Pentecostal Revival of the 1930s. The church first met in people's homes and then in the Institute building on Bristol Road before moving to a permanent site in Alton Road. In 1983, two buildings later, the church were outgrowing their premises and arranged to swap buildings with St. Wulstan's. Today, we meet at Elim Church Centre on Exeter Road (2006 was the building's 100th anniversary and the church's 70th anniversary).

Last night two of the connect groups that the Hesketh’s were part of had a joint goodbye celebration. It was a great time to meet together, have some food and show our appreciation for the Hesketh’s. Iain and Rachel played Mr and Mrs and were in agreement in almost everything! ~ ~ ~ Remember that this Sunday is their last Sunday with us. Make sure you come along as we pray for them and share a meal together as a family. @ Encounter Church

Yesterday our Connect Group leaders gathered for an evening of envisioning and leadership development. It was the last of these meetings for Iain, so we took the opportunity to pray for him as he steps into his new role at Elim Missions next week.

Don't forget that this Sunday is Iain and Rachel's final Sunday with us. We'll be honouring them as a family and saying goodbye together, both during the service and over lunch afterwards.

Last night we had an incredible time at the UK and Beyond Conference. J John shared about the importance of witness and being intentional with our prayers. Tak Bhana shared some of his life lessons that he has learned through 30 years of ministry. You can watch all of this on their YouTube channel.
Tonight’s session is free. It starts at 7pm at BCC and it is going to be another incredible night. We hope to see you there. #encounterchurchuk #ukandbeyondconference #dependingonGod

On Sunday, Jack spoke into how we can fight our battles and gave us three great steps to do this. These three steps are to remember who God is, acknowledge the problem and press on in praise. He was inspired by the song Surrounded by Upper Room. Click on the link to listen to the song. https://youtu.be/vx6mfAgHDsY

#FridayFocus Life is hard sometimes, isn’t it? Trouble has a way of finding us. Paul wrote these words to a group of people who were suffering persecution because they followed Jesus. He encouraged them - and us - to take an eternal perspective on our troubles. Even the worst things we face in this life are temporary and will pass away. By faith, we fix our eyes on Jesus who is eternally supreme over all things.

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. - Psalm 19:1-4 #lyricoftheweek https://youtu.be/GfVd5x9W1Xc

Comedian and evangelist Mark Ritchie is coming to perform his hilarious one-man show "God Only Knows" this November! This show enjoyed a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Mark has performed it around the UK and abroad. In this show, Mark tells stories ranging from a questionable curry to his experiences with his Christian faith. This is an ideal event to invite your friends to - it's a guaranteed good night out!

#FridayFocus Whatever you’re facing today, whether you’re in the best season of life you’ve ever had or the very worst, take courage from this: God is your refuge. He is your safe place. Go to Him with all that’s going on and discover that He is absolutely trustworthy and able to carry you through it all.

Iain, Rachel, Hannah and Sarah will be leaving us as Iain goes to take on the role of International Missions Director at Elim HQ. Their last Sunday is the 23rd of September, so we're going to be saying our goodbyes on that day.
We'll be having a joint service at 10:30, with both our locations gathering at Selly Oak.
After the morning service, we'll be putting on a lunch, during which we can take the opportunity to honour Iain and Rachel for their time with us and say farewell.

This week’s lyric of the week is from Housefires’ song Build My Life. What is your life built on? Are you building on the firm foundation that is Jesus? https://youtu.be/FYMjO9mL0Tw
