The new tax year has begun so here are some key changes that take effect from April:
-The tax free personal allowance has increased from £11,850 to £12,500.
-The threshold for paying higher rate tax will increase from £46,350 to £50,000.
... -The Class 1 National Insurance upper earnings limit has increased to £50,000. So the rate of 12% now applies from £8632 - £50,000.
-From 6th April 2019 the employer minimum pension contribution will increase from 2% to 3% and the staff contribution will increase from 3% to 5%.
-The capital gains tax annual exempt amount for individuals increases from £11,700 to £12,000.

Philip Hammond delivered The Budget 2018 on Monday, here are a couple of key points from his speech.
- The personal allowance threshold, the rate at which people start paying income tax at 20%, to rise from £11,850 to £12,500 in April 2019. - The higher rate income tax threshold, the point at which people start paying tax at 40%, to rise from £46,350 to £50,000 in April 2019. - National Living Wage increasing by 4.9%, from £7.83 to £8.21 an hour, from April 2019.
