About Fleur De Lys, Lowsonford

A beautiful village country pub famous for pies, bursting with character & situated idyllically on the banks of the Stratford Canal.

Fleur De Lys, Lowsonford Description

Nestled in the picturesque village of Lowsonford, on the banks of the Stratford Canal, between winding country roads that used to be part of the Forest of Arden, The Fleur De Lys is the very best kind of country pub.

Packed full of quaint charm and quirky corners beneath its C16th wooden beams, The Fleur is a cosy haven in the winter and an extensive paradise in the summer.

For us, a lovely country pub is all about the atmosphere. Whether it’s a smiling face behind the bar or the cosiness of a roaring log fire, we think you should feel like you can stick around for as long as you like.

It’s not a gastropub. It’s not a restaurant. It’s not a bar & kitchen. The Fleur De Lys is quite simply a quintessentially English country pub full of old world charm, and that’s just the way we like it.

And with that, we bid adieu to another Bank Holiday. Here’s hoping your four day week is kind and gentle whilst you wait for your next day off. Take it easy out there, friends; it’s a tough old world outside the walls of your favourite pub...

We genuinely discussed lighting the fires this morning because it was so chilly. Please can we go back to having a heatwave and working outside because that’s where everyone sits?!

It’s a dog’s life...

Need to book a table for the Bank Holiday weekend? Why not try this cosy little corner? Admittedly, someone did once leave us a review saying they hated this table and wouldn’t be coming back if they had to sit here again. It’s one of our favourites though! It begs the question of whether you’re loyal to a pub or loyal to a piece of furniture. Are you the kind of person who always has to sit in the same place or are you happy to sit anywhere so long as you’re fed & watered?

We don’t always venture out the pub, but when we do we make sure we’re wearing branded t-shirts... For those of you who don’t know, this is us. He’s Nick and I’m Emma and we took over the Fleur De Lys in 2014. We’re supported by an amazing cast of nutters who keep the good ship Fleur on the right course, but that’s it. We’re not managed by a pubco, the brewery supply our beer not our business and we’re not part of a massive chain. S’just us, really, which comes as a surprise to most people and is why every customer means so much to us. We couldn’t be here, wearing branded shirts, if it weren’t for you.

Chef said you lot might not want roasts today and I said he was a fool and then you all went and ordered the pheasant and the hake from the specials and proved him right. Now he’ll be insufferable. Thanks a lot 🙄

It seems like every time we have friends or family to visit, we end up sitting here with them. And on Christmas Day, once all the midday revellers have gone, we cosy up in this corner to enjoy our family dinner & drunken present opening. This is the nook that everybody loves & the place where everyone wants to while away the time. How glorious to have such a cherished corner of an old building.

For those of you who know Xena the pub dog, you might like to hear that today is her first birthday. We celebrated by running up and down hills and chasing bright orange balls all afternoon. For those of you who don’t know her, you’re missing out on the sweetest and funniest nutter you’ll ever meet.

Recently rated as “BUHRILLYANT” by a panel of 8-year-olds, our garden boasts a set of goal posts, authentic lock gates & a rather splendiferous playground, all set in our acre of enclosed land. So if you’re looking for somewhere to keep the kids occupied until September comes, this might just be the perfect solution.

And just like that, the weather is cooler, the ground is wetter and everyone wants a roast again. Is it time to light the fires and put on a big woollen jumper now?!

It’s the place you go to unwind after a long day or meet with mates you’ve not seen in an age or celebrate another epic milestone or drown your sorrows about that thing that didn’t turn out how you thought it would or have a quick pit stop on your way to somewhere else or gossip endlessly with the other mums whilst the kids explore or entertain those clients who want a slice of real English countryside life. It’s your pub to use however you like, and it’s been this way for hundreds of years. That’s quite something. 🍻

For the rest of you: come and get involved! There'll be so much to see and do, not least laughing at us trying to run a beer & pie tent for the first time ever...

They say there’s rain coming but will it reach us here in the Lowsonford microclimate...?

Check our this saucy number from our friends down the road at The Bulls Head, our sister pub in Wootton Wawen. Well worth a visit for dessert alone!

“What are your feelings about dogs?” asked a man on the phone the other day. “I like them a great deal,” I replied. “So much so that I’ve got one myself.”
Yes, we are a dog friendly pub. Yes, dogs can sit anywhere in the garden. Yes, dogs can come inside to the lower bar. Yes, we think you should always ask us for a bowl of water if you can’t find one. Yes, dogs are our favourite types of customers with an unfortunate human accompaniment. Yes, this is Xena the pub dog and yes, she knows that she’s beautiful.

As we dive into a new week with the forecast showing little other than sunshine symbols & highs of 28 degrees, the question has to be asked: is Summer 2018 the best in recent memory...?
