If you're stuck for a Christmas gift, consider a voucher for warm wax foot therapy. Its very relaxing and helps ease tired, shopped out feet! Vouchers can be purchased at the clinic - please contact us for further details.

Folkestone Podiatry are off to the Winter Shelters to do a few stints this year. As usual, any new socks will be much appreciated. Fairly thick ones that will last. The guests are very grateful for them. The socks can be dropped into the clinic or given to either one of us. Many thanks.

Looking forward to visiting Sandgate primary school tomorrow to talk to Years 4 & 6 about Science and Podiatry. Ive got props and lots of yucky foot facts to keep the kids engaged. Just hope they dont ask anything too obscure - children can be a tough audience!

Apologies to everyone who we couldn’t see today. Due to the unusual weather conditions following the rain this morning and the subsequent ice rink, the decision was made to stay closed today for the safety of us all. We have extra appointments slots available next week for those who need them. Many thanks for your continued support!

Check out our new website page, we thought it was time for a fresh look. Michelle and I are busy as always at the clinic, fixing those winter feet. The winter shelters are drawing to a close now with spring in sight. I'm pleased to report that quite a few guests were found accommodation. Thank you to all those that donated socks.

Just a quick update on how its going at the shelter. I visited Sunday and saw a lot of feet and handed out a lot of socks. General complaint was aching feet. When you are walking for miles each day the feet are tried, wet and painful. The socks were gratefully received, so keep them coming in, to either the Podiatry practice or the Rainbow centre. It was a relaxed evening, with 12 people fed and warm. Temperature outside -2.

Went to the training evening at the Rainbow centre, in prep for the shelters opening in November. It was an interesting evening and quite informative. The Rainbow centre has been established now for 9 years. It offers so much help and advice for people on the streets. I didn't realise that the visitors can use the rainbow centre`s address when signing up for a G.P or going for job applications. There was a whole list of services they offer and numerous volunteers manning... the whole thing.
If people are noted by the centre within the first couple of weeks of being on the streets, they can often help them quick and break the cycle they are likely to fall into. The vulnerability of these people could not be stressed enough. They are prey to all forms of exploitation and dependency. Modern day slavery is on the increase and homeless young people are easy prey.
Another note of interest was on ex service veterans. If they find themselves on the streets the centre get them recognised and helped very quickly. Their service number is reported and they are taken care of by their establishment - if they want the help.
Local bed and breakfasts also are required to take in the homeless if the temperature drops below 0 degrees. This again is sorted out by the centre. It is worth getting to know your local shelter and pop in to see what you can do over the cold months. I know the Hawkinge W.I are making up xmas boxes and giving food donations which will be much appreciated. Keep an extra eye out for the people in your area and dont forget to donate new socks to us so we can distribute (nice warm ones much appreciated).

Folkestone Podiatry Practice will be at the winter shelters again this year. We would appreciate any donations of New socks for these vulnerable people. Often their feet are sore and wet and a gesture of a clean pair of socks can really make a difference. Either myself or Michelle can take the donations or pop them into the clinic, any of the clinicians will take them. Many thanks.

We are pleased to announce that we now have our second room up and running. Its great to work with colleagues again and has increased our capability to see more needy feet!
Please feel free to drop in New socks to us for the winter shelters this year. They are always gratefully received.
Reflexology vouchers are on sale at the clinic - they make a lovely Christmas gift for someone that deserves a bit of pampering.

If you are at a loose end Sunday 30th August, pop down to the Sandgate Sea Festival. We shall be there measuring feet! - yes you heard right. We will give you a balloon and a lollipop for your trouble! Theres lots of stalls, music, foo and fun stuff happening, its sure to be a great day out (if the weather holds up!).
Adults are often unsure of their foot size and don`t realise that they can often go up a size as they get older. We will let you know your length and width so... that you can buy that perfect pair of shoes! www.sandgate-sea-festival.co.uk
