📣 This is a question we are asked quite often
Both of these devices work in the same way and deliver fantastic results. The 6 month device is great for a kick start to your weight loss, especially if you have weight gain due to a short term illness, pregnancy or an injury. Our aftercare package is for 12 months, which includes diet/nutrition, exercise support and behavioral therapy.
The 12 month device (Orbera 365) is beneficial in many ways. If you have yoyo dieted for a lo...ng time, if you struggle to lose weight or even if you are able to lose but struggle to maintain it. With the portion control for double the amount of time and an aftercare package of 18 months we find that patient's feel a lot more confident at the end of the journey to continue with their progress. The longer you do something the more likely you are to stick with it. 🎈

💫 How is the balloon inserted? 💫
The balloon is implanted as a day case in your chosen hospital. It is performed in an endoscopy suite, not an operating theatre, by a specialist Gastroenterologist and takes just 20 minutes. You won’t need to stay overnight so you can have a gastric balloon discretely with minimal disruption to your normal routine.
The procedure is performed under sedation rather than a general anaesthetic which means you’ll be conscious but sedated throughout... the procedure so you won’t feel any discomfort. Importantly this also means you won’t suffer the ill-effects of an anaesthetic so you can get back to normal activities faster.
During the procedure, the soft deflated balloon is implanted into your stomach using an endoscope, a long tube that is inserted through your mouth. The endoscope slides down your throat and when the balloon reaches the stomach, it is filled with harmless saline solution (salt water). Once filled, the balloon is detached from the endoscope and the tube is removed.
Unlike a surgical procedure, there are no incisions in the skin so no wounds to heal and no scars. Your stomach is not cut or altered in any way so there are no lasting changes to your body. This also means that, unlike surgery, your recovery is short.
