Hi all, thats it then, another week done, I hope everyone has had a good productive one.
I thought today I would discuss a ceiling covering that was popular back in the 70's, textured ceiling, more comonly know by the trade name Artex. There was some great patters achieved by skilled applicators and horrific ones by the not so skilled. Back then we didnt realise that some contained asbestos, not a great problem if the Artex is undisturbed, but it has the potential to create a...n issue if not removed correctly.
There are a few ways the ceiling can be treated if you want a smooth finish back, it can be plastered, overboarded and skimed, scraped off to name a few, all traditional methods are time consuming and messy.
You've guessed it, a stretch ceiling can be used very simply and quickly without the need to remove furniture from the room, and whats more can be completed in a few hours with virtually no mess, the Artex is completly encapsulated, so no problems with the asbestos.

Continuing with stretch ceilings, and their uses, first I thought I would discuss swimming pools, both commercial and resedential.
Stretch ceilings are hugely benificial in these areas because the ceilings are made of PVC they are not affected by water or indeed by the harsh humid envioronments of the indoor pool, or by any chemicals that might be used for cleaning or water treatment, the ceiling...s will act as a vapour barrier to prevent migration of moisture through the ceiling.
The ceiling can span large areas. They come in many finishes and colours. They can also be shaped to add more drama to the room.

Happy Monday to all. Welcome to the new week. Continuing my stretch ceiling education, I suppose really the first thing to discuss is what is a stretch ceiling?. Well in its basic form it is simply a suspended ceiling, however unlike the traditional tile and grid or MF ceilings a stretch ceiling is only supported from the perimeter of the room, but why stretch ceiling?, think of an elastic band, if you stretch the elastic band it is always trying to return to it's original size, this is exactly what a stretch ceiling is doing. It is an extremely lightweight ceiling that comes in different finishes (Matt, Satin, Gloss, Translucent, Mettalic, Printed etc) and a huge amount of colours. Here is one of our recent projects that’s we have completed 🔨
... Our client from Birmingham, wanted to transform their basement pool and wanted to cover the insulated steel beams. To carry out the project we added a shaped black gloss ceiling over the pool. And completed with fibre optic lighting, and colour changing edge light and we added a white gloss ceiling over the walkways. And we added a printed beach scene to end our project with that extra touch.
