Hauser Bears Description
Bears and their habitats need our help. Six of the eight bear species of bears in the world are officially classified as facing extinction.
Moreover, and in the words of famous bear biologist Chris Morgan:
“The world’s eight bear species live in the wildest places on earth. Meet the needs of bears and we will meet the needs of countless other species too, including our own. What is good for bears is good for people. Protect their habitat and you will protect fresh water, healthy forests and clean air. ”
The work of Hauser Bears goes much beyond the protection of bears. It is about the future of many other species too, who share their habitat. The concept of protecting umbrella species, whose habitat also offer a home to many others is hugely impactful in terms of conservation.
Hauser Bears’ work is also about changing attitudes, hopefully reframing some of our thinking around man’s place in the environment, which has lead to an unhealthy disconnect with nature.
Finally it’s about helping people live better lives, protect all animals they share their habitat with, moving away from a culture of exploitation and abuse, to one of respect and sustainability.
Protecting bears, these inspiring and charismatic animals, both keystone and umbrella species, has to be top of the agenda in the immediate future to positively care for the planet we call home.
We are proud to facilitate the change that is needed to save these majestic animals, their habitat, the species they co-habit with and ultimately the human spirit. We are also proud to be working in collaboration with many other organisations who share the same vision and invest in our future as passionately as we do.

Hundreds of previously unknown contaminants were found in a new study of polar bear blood, published in a German chemical journal this week. There are many unexplained chemicals in human blood, as well as in wildlife and environmental samples, according to the study's author, toxicologist Jon Martin. The Advancing Bear Care workshop took place at our partners facility in Agra, India. Congratulations to all who organised and participated. We were able to sponsor the attendance of 25 bear keepers and funded the construction of a new education building at the Wildlife SOS bear sanctuary in Agra.
From Twitter @AEDerocher Nov 9 Mom & 2 yearlings near the coast east of Churchill. Ice is forming nearshore but the bears aren’t venturing far out on it. Some bears are in ok shape but this mom was wary of a skinny male. Cannibalism event near here last week. Yearlings seem smallish. Cold weather coming soon.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year: a sun bear behind bars The bear's hopeless situation in an Indonesian zoo was captured by 25-year-old photojournalist Emily Garthwaite on a trip to Sumatra, and the below image is in this year's Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. Emily says that as soon as the bear saw her, it rushed to the front of its filthy cage.
