🎄 Want to make sure your Christmas tree lasts until New Year? Here are some tips.
1. Keep it outside in a bucket of water until you want to decorate it. 2. If you have a cut tree, use a stand with a water reservoir. Cut two inches off the stump before fixing into the stand. 3. Use a cover pot or bucket for pot-grown trees and make sure the top of the pot is moist. Do not overfill with water as the tree's roots need to breathe.
... And after Christmas, repot or plant pot-grown trees into the garden, making sure they are well watered in the first spring and summer.
Recycle cut trees at one of the many recycling centres so that the tree is composted and the carbon it contains is returned to the soil. 🎄

We're always looking for different acers to add to our stock. New for us this coming season is Acer palmatum 'Pung Kill'. It has narrow, almost black/red leaves, along with glossy, dark bark.

A few of our acer seedlings few from last year. These will be potted on into 9cm pots in the spring. We will grow them on and keep looking out for any with particularly good spring and/or autumn colour - or different shaped leaves. We will pull these out of the batch and grow them on. The rest will be used for grafting in the summer.

We try to propagate as much as we can here at the nursery and keep a good stock of our more well-used varieties. We're also always trying to expand the range of plants we have in stock.

The last few leaves on the liquidambar looked fantastic over the weekend. No blue skies today though. :(

Our apprentice, Jess, has to select 100 plants for her ident for college. We've told her no Googling, look up the descriptions and read about them. Who are your favourite plant authors?
