About Jailhouse Bistro
When the new police station opened up in Vicarage Street in the 1960s, this left the old victorian buildings, police station, police house, and cell block redundant.
The Yorkshire Bank now occupies some of the old police station and courts, which left the police house and cell block empty and disused for over 30 years.
In 1993 Kim Carr, a local cafe owner who was born and still lives in Nuneaton, decided on a major project to re-design and extend the old cell block, taking the last of these three beautiful victorian buildings out of retirement and back to work

The project began in Feb 1994 and opened up for business on 19th August 1994. The Jailhouse's new life has a distinct contrast to its previous life and now gives alot of people alot of pleasure.
There were 12 cells in all, of which 6 were on the ground floor and 6 on the first including; The kitchen, food store, ladies and gents toilets.
On the ground floor customers can see the vaulted ceiling of each cell, all with original brick walls. On appearance the wooden floors look original, but they are not and have been given a second life. The planks used inside were the ceiling of an army barracks, and now form the floor. . . . . and the trapdoors, could the be tunnels leading to the Old police station (the yorkshire bank)????
Even the stair go in the opposite direction than originally, so all in all a lot of thought went into the re-designing of this building. It now caters superbly for a lot of people with a large variety of tastes. . . . .

Went for lunch, the staff were fantastic as ever, always greeted warmly, we stopped for lunch and it was lovely. I don't think there is anywhere else in town i would rather go. A great experience, will be going back!
Very good, swift service and a nice breakfast with old work friends, well one not so old lol!!
The Jailhouse is a stylish and friendly bistro, it's warm, spacious and comfortable with a great atmosphere. Sunday roast never disappoints and the dauphinois potatoes are to die for. I try to visit every couple of months to remind me what Sunday lunch should taste like!! �
Popped in for breakfast, friendly staff, good value and the food was served piping hot. Well worth a visit if you are passing

Lovely staff, beautiful food and friendly relaxing environment to eat drink and relax... best bar/restaurant in Nuneaton town centre in my opinion, I've been going there for years and never had anything but an excellent experience ���
Love jailhouse. We as a family go there often for breakfast, lunch or even to celebrate birthdays. The food is always fantastic and the staff are brilliant. I can honestly not fault this place one bit.
Literally the best breakfast I’ve ever had, can’t recommend it enough
It's the best place in Nuneaton friendly staff , great food and beer and the evening entertainment is fab, they also make parties really special, well done guys
I booked a large family get together for just after Christmas. Despite the number of guests doubling within a couple of weeks of my booking the staff took it all in their stride, they were very helpful & friendly, the food was delicious and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
Had such a lovely lunch today. After a busy couple of hours shopping for last minute Christmas presents we arrived at peak time and it was very busy. I had a toddler, buggy and Christmas shopping in tow yet we were made to feel very welcome, found a lovely seat with plenty of space and my daughter and I enjoyed a lovely unhurried lunch together with good food and good service. We left feeling very relaxed and content.
Had Sunday carvery a few weeks ago and couldn't fault a thing. Food was great, service was excellent and they were great with my 10 year old son. He often gets bored when we're eating out but the waiter engaged him in conversation straight away, suggesting youtube clips he might like. Lovely, friendly atmosphere - would highly recommend!

Always love lunch here, always find it hard to decide, but I think the veggie burger with cheese is my favourite, Kim and his staff are friendly and the service is usually fast, unless they are very busy, always better to go just after the lunch time rush :) we eat here every week, and have never had a bad meal. The only place in Nuneaton I feel happy to take business meetings. Nice atmosphere and great design.

This was my first visit....was greeted with a nice smile and a friendly member of staff...was taken to a table which was really cosy as only the 2 of us...meal was very nice and lovely and hot...will be visiting again well happy 😃
Popped in yesterday afternoon, a bit adhoc but there was tables available.
I had the bacon and mushroom Carbonara and my wife had the Sunday Lunch, both came hot and fresh, excellent. After we had ordered, i had to pop off to reacue my mum (long story!) but i explained this to the waitress who said its not a problem, let us know when you are ready. I contacted my wife when i was on the way back and by the time i had parked and walked down my food was on the table! Service with a smile.
