About Kenilworth Castle

A vast medieval fortress which became an Elizabethan palace, Kenilworth Castle is one of England's largest and most impressive historic sites.

Kenilworth Castle Description

A vast medieval fortress which became an Elizabethan palace, Kenilworth Castle is one of England's largest and most impressive historic sites. Spanning more than eight centuries, the varied buildings and architectural styles reflect its long connection with successive English monarchs. Visit the impressively-timbered Tudor stables, which now house the castle's tearoom and a fascinating interactive display on the castle's history, or stroll around the re-created Elizabethan Garden which features a Renaissance aviary, magnificent carved arbours, an 18-foot high marble fountain, and a planting scheme abundant in colour, perfume and fruit.

Remember, you are welcome to arrive at any point throughout the event, with last entry at 9pm. From 6pm - 7.30pm, you can expect a more family-friendly experience, recommended for 5 - 10s. Many of our visitors say autumn is their favourite time to see the castle. What do you enjoy most about this time of year?
1) Long walks in the crisp air 2) Kicking the autumn leaves 3) The return of cosy jumpers!

We fell in love with the Castle immediately, it is such a stunning place, there is plenty to explore but you need to enjoy walking. can’t wait to go back. All the staff were very friendly and the gift shop was so full of gorgeous souvenirs we couldn’t decide what to choose. Definitely going to revisit.

User

There was more to see than I'd thought, it was interesting learning about how the castle has changed over time. The facilities were good and easy to find and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Nice choice of beers/wines to buy too.

User

My 3 boys had an amazing time today. Esp taking part in the battle. Missed out on the Princess bit but they weren't that fussed. We used our memberships to get in but everything is so expensive. Would be nice for members to have discount in the café and gift shop...

User

Massive thank you to David who did the tour of Kenilworth Castle today. He was amazing! Best tour guide ever. He was energetic, entertaining and engaging. They don’t normally do the tours on a standard day but as part of the castle was closed off for a wedding, they put them on as a way of an apology. We really enjoyed it and would hope they introduce them as an optional extra in the future. Thank you for a lovely day.

User

Lovely evening had by whole family - grandparents as well the fire garden was nice the children made some fun rolling down the hills in the dark hiding in the ruins making shadows on the castle walls good family fun - the rides werent appropriate for oir kids age but nice enough for little ones

User

Lived down the road from here all my life (34 years) and never been. Just joined English heritage and this was my first excursion and I LOVED it! I'm amazed at how much there is to the grounds and the history is just incredible. I'm fascinated by the Tudor period and there's so much Tudor history!! Can't wait for Mondays Elizabethan event!!

User

I think people are confusing the castle with a theme park. The main attraction is the castle itself and nothing else. I was born in Kenilworth and the castle has a special place in my heart, even as a child I thought it was amazing. I always pay a visit whenever I'm back in town, I just never get tired of walking around.

User

Had a lovely day here at Kenilworth Castle - lots of activities for the kids at the moment and my daughter had a great time learning Castle Storming, Dancing and Bow and Arrowing.

User

Had a lovely day at the castle. Plenty to see. The garden was a treat to see. Some nice walks outside the castle grounds. It would be encouraging if the admission fee could be lowered for low income people.

User

Had a lovely day at the Pagent, staff and characters all freindly, wife even managed a spot of gin tasting on the way out of souvenir shop.

User

Great castle. Better then lots of others. Lovely grounds. Great to explore up the different levels. Only positives about this place. £2 parking is understandable too. Cafe decent too.

User

Attended medieval festival at the castle with my three boys and husband. We all had a fantastic day boys thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The castle and gardens were charming ... we will defiantly be returning !

User

A brilliant day out with fabulous, enthusiastic ‘hands on history’ guides. Thank you for a wonderful day.

User

My children (aged 8 & 10) loved the 'hands on history'. My son must have completed 30 jousting rounds, and my daughter loved the guided walks and hands on experiences.

User

Today's medieval event was disappointing. Maybe it was the fact we arrived at 2pm and the historical enactors were tired after a hard morning but our boys ages 8 and 10 were completely ignored when they went to a couple of tents to ask questions which completely disengaged them - so much for encouraging kids to take an interest in history!

User

This is not aimed at the castle and grounds itself but the medieval joust we attended.

From the previous years I was expecting stalls of gifts, food traditionally made items as well as lots of things to see along side the joust...... Very disappointed, one stall, of which the vendor looked bored out of her mind..... And one food stall selling hotdogs....... Joust was boring, more parading than clashing, and the day was just 3 things to look at on repeat. We spent more time wandering around the castle and gardens, of which I could have attended any time, without the hefty price tag.

Considering I love living history events this was so bad I won't be attending one again unless it's the large scale events such as the living history event in kelmarsh hall 2014. What a waste of money.

Father's Day Classic Car weekend? Where do I start firstly it's very rare for me to take to Facebook to complain but considering this event was aimed for dads, and spend 43.00 on getting into the castle and £32.00 on food I am really disappointed Kenilworth and English Heritage! I want to point out our family have been members and we have been to events in your grounds previously which were much more pleasant and enjoyable and worth every penny paid, but today was terrible. Firstly, not sure why dads could not get free admission to the grounds for Fathers Day? Surely this is done by other events across the UK, promoting father days special weekends? Secondly, advertising a brass band then playing music through a speaker with a bin bag round it is NOT the same. Yes there were classic cars in the grounds, some lovely ones at that which made up for the lack of atmosphere and awful service in the Castle cafe. Three, the food advertising special afternoon teas for fathers, when in fact you queue for 30 mins, and find out there is not a lot of food left at 2pm including cream teas? I felt really sorry for the staff but there was a definite lack of communication between front and kitchen surely, it would of been easier informing visitors what was on the menu or striking off for the boards advertising food what was in stock instead of letting people queue for nearly 40 minutes to get to the front to be told sorry we haven't got that? We chose from a limited menu, all choices were not as advertised and then waiting another 35 minutes for a soup, salad and sandwich, which to be fair was not worth the money paid. I have to say again we have eaten here before and it was much better, also having to collect your own food as we thought we had been forgotten - then realising your order is wrong and having to wait again whilst the rest of your party eats isn't good enough, paying £6.95 for a salad which was literally green leaves, ham, coleslaw and potato salad wasn't worth the money and worse still to find a hair in it, gave up in the end The grounds of the castle you cannot doubt are beautiful and the exhibition but come on English Heritage and Kenilworth staff, we know you guys can do so much better!!!! Be sold a white elephant ...

User

Really dissatisfied with the enchanted castle , there was one fairground ride , no ‘exiting to a Victorian fairground ‘ as I think the advertising states , there was one stall selling food , the shopping was the usual Kenilworth shop with glow sticks added ! the lights were hardly enchanting , there were poor sound quality recordings dotted about the place , one of which was stuck the entire time we were there , the lights were pretty but really average , yes it was muddy but that can’t be helped , but for the price and the way it’s advertised this really is an utter rip off . Have been impressed with kenilworth events up until now so it’s a real shame .

User

Kenilworth Enchanted Castle - So disappointed with this tonight! Overly priced, not at all as described in the advertising. Paths were a slippy mess making it dangerous, sometimes you couldn’t even see where you were going, and this was at 4.30pm! There were only 2 rides including small teacups and a shooting game. No Christmas stalls, apart from 1 selling a few hot drinks. No carousel. Waste of time and money!! Not surprised this is sold out as it’s been falsely advertised, but there is definitely going to be a lot of unhappy people.
