Golf and the Duke of Edinburgh Award have at least one thing in common – both require people to step forward and volunteer. You do it because it feels the right thing to do.
Once in a while there is some little bonus. Sunday 7th October It was our privilege at Kings Norton to welcome Hazel Clifford all the way from Bermuda. Hazel has put in four decades of volunteering for the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Bermuda. As a thank you she was eligible to play in a golf competition f...or DOFE volunteers and Hazel was the winner.
Usually you would receive a momentum and that is the end. https://www.facebook.com/…/a.1015185229 …/10155292168821993/…
However, the winners of this competition, played in various parts of the Commonwealth from around the world were invited to play at an exclusive golf course.
The home counties is known for its exclusive golf clubs but this is by invitation only. The Royal Household Golf Club at Windsor.
To commemorate playing Hazel received a ball marker, and the traditional evening meal after a game of golf was in Windsor Castle hosted by Prince Edward.
To avoid missing out on the varied activities at Kings Norton Golf Club please Like.

Surely no fair minded person could suggest that golf and the Ryder Cup is boring?
Extraordinary golf played without controversy, congratulations to all the players. Commiserations to team USA. Congratulations to the European team. The BBC headline I think has been written by a non-golfer. Many of the matches which Europe won on the final day were very close and whilst it was brilliant that Europe won it is wrong to suggest the USA were thrashed.
If you have enjoyed the Ryder... Cup why not “Get Into Golf” https://www.kingsnortongolfclub.co.uk/get at Kings Norton Golf Club regularly group lesson programs, new members welcome. Winter Package available https://www.kingsnortongolfclub.co.uk/win ter/

Many golf clubs do not have much in the way of practice areas, something which is easy to overlook if you are looking to take up golf, or move to a new club.
Here at Kings Norton members are lucky that when the course was being developed in the late 1960’s those in charge ensured that an area over 240 yards long and a 100 yards wide was set as side for practice, in addition to other areas, around the course.

Peter Ricketts book “The Road to Weatheroak” pg 72 Peter records John Davis scored six Stableford points with a hole in one on the 7th Yellow 22nd June 1984. He was in receipt of two shots.
The top golfers amongst you will say that could not be the case as the hole is stroke index 8. Presumably the hole SI must have been adjusted since then (now 8).
Peter Ricketts was both an accomplished golfer and journalist whose tireless support did a tremendous amount to promote the c...lub and whose name features on the honours boards so I cannot imagine he would have got such a detail wrong.
A small trophy with the ball was created to mark the achievement.
Footnote In 1994 7th Yellow was a stroke index 5 hole.
By 2003 it had become a SI 8.

Friday 27th July 2018 Kings Norton hosted three musical acts Lula, Pippa Langhorne, and top of the bill Julian Smith.
Lula opened the evening followed by an excellent buffet which did not disappoint. Pippa Langhorne sang a range from opera to Candi Staton “Young Hearts Run Free”.
Julian Smith and is accompanying musicians rounded off the evening.
... I have seen a number of live tribute bands and the sound system has been terrible. Julian Smiths setup was fantastic perfectly suited to the room and made for a brilliant night.

It is easy to think what is holding us back is the lack of the right equipment. (It does not hurt to have good equipment) but in truth when you watch the life story of Seve Ballesteros, it rapidly becomes clear that what makes people good and even great is themselves.
Seve Ballesteros started off playing with a 3-iron. A club which is rarely seen on golf courses today. (3 iron is not an easy club to use.)
Within a few years Seve was so good he had left Spain and was playing ...at Kings Norton September 1976 amongst other tournaments. Seve played Kevin Bayliss (in 1976 Kevin was the assistant pro at the Lickey Hills) and lost.
This is a link to the Seve story https://youtu.be/OJfl0pylkZY

We had a society day here today, course was excellent, it's great to play and very picturesque! The greens are quick and true! Food and service was also brilliant! There were a lot of people there but service was still very quick and we never got held up at all on the course. Will definitely return!

User

This club & its members have made me feel so welcome, the pro shop is well stocked with a wide range of everything that every ability of golfer will need. All the pros are very knowledgeable about everything, if you are looking to join a golf club do have a look at Kings Norton.

So after being married a year today it was only right that we returned to the same venue. Nothing has changed. It still has great staff, lovely atmosphere, beautiful scenery and the most amazing food. Only one thing let it down... no lemon meringue on the menu!!!! but that's ok because we will be back next year and every year after that for our anniversary. Keep up the great work xx

User

Played there today for first time in The Oak Trophy, have to say was made to feel really welcome by the gents doing the check in. Course was in great shape, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Arrived early, weather very autumnal. Very friendly staff in Pro shop. Played the Blue & Red holes. Fantastic condition all round. Spoke to Kevin, the club Pro on completion. Very friendly and welcoming. They sell Abbot Ale, brewed by Greene King , So a winner for a Suffolk boy. All in all, a very strong contender for future golf membership.

A golf club for golfers. 3 loops of 9 so you have 3 different 18s to play and as you can start on any loop, there is no booking system required. Great Junior section. Championship length. Par 3 course and extensive practice areas.
