Our 'Jewels in Lozells' project is sadly in it's last week and the ladies have been hard at work finishing their last work. Here you can see their efforts, making cakes and cushions in the respective cake & sewing classes. They have written many positive testimonials about their experiences during the project. However, we still have a long waiting list of participants and we are still appealing on their behalf for funding to start a new empowerment project in the coming year.... We are actively looking for funders to restart this project that is not only empowering, it promotes community cohesion and, building of lasting positive relationships regardless of faiths or ethnicities. If you know of any individuals or organisations that would be interested in supporting us, then by all means, get in touch. These smiling faces are from participants and tutor of our cake classes which is a part of our 'Jewels in Lozells' project, which has been running for a record 3 years now. It has empowered all of its participants (over 200 so far) to learn vocational skills, build confidence, and has encouraged community cohesion in a diverse community of faiths and ethnicities. Sadly, this project is ending soon. However, due to demand, and long waiting list, we're seeking further funding to restart the project next year. We're very grateful to our past and current funders, the People's Health trust and Awards for All for all their support. If you would like to get involved in supporting this project next year, please get in touch and play your part in putting a smile on many more faces. Thank you. #awardsforall #peopleshealthtrust #jewelsinlozells

We're happy to share some good news! We got this lovely cake from Mrs. X (real name withheld), who we have been supporting with benefits and housing issues. She lives with her two young children and wasn't getting any housing benefit and was sinking into heavy debt because of her rent arrears. We got her to see our benefits adviser who quickly got in touch with housing benefit to sort out her complex and complicated issues (it took about a month!), with the help of a voluntee...r to interprete. We also have her food vouchers to get by during the time it took. So today she walked with her award letter which states that her housing benefit would be paid and has been back dated all the way to August 2018! She's chuffed and says a big thank you to the Centre, staff, and volunteers for all that we do! We are really happy for her and honoured to be appreciated in this way. Now it's time to put the kettle on and make some tea, we've got a cake waiting!

On Tuesday the 7th August 2018, we were honoured to have hosted a visit by Lord Nick Bourne, Minister for Faith & Parliamentary Under-Secretary of Wales. Lord Bourne arrived at about 11:45 am and was quickly introduced to the Minister of the Church and co-superintendent of the Birmingham Methodist Circuit, Reverend Alison Richards; the centre manager, Eddy Aigbe; Rabiyah Latif, the coordinator of the event from Near Neighbours; volunteers, and community of local residents, an...d leaders who came specially to welcome him.
After the introductions, Rev. Alison Richards talked about Lozells Methodist Church and the work at the centre. Lord Bourne stepped forward to thank us for the warm welcome and to talk about his #FaithTour2. He, his entourage, and members of the community that came to greet him were taken on a tour of the building. Lord Bourne was shown around and was informed about all the services and projects (past and present) that the community centre provided.
After the tour, Lord Bourne and guests were served refreshments in the Church. He then gave a vote of thanks for the warm welcome, the tour, and the work that the Church and Centre are doing. He gave his approval of the work that we were doing in and for the community and encouraged us to continue. Members of his entourage also gave their approval and spoke highly about the many services, spaces, and projects that we provided to the community. We, in turn, thanked them for the visit and hoped that and our funders will continue working with us to help maintain and provide more to the community.
