Some feedback from a recent trip by a family on the Shropshire Maid. Hi. Just to say we had an absolutely amazing trip on the Shropshire Maid last week. The training session before we left was first rate, and when we did have a wee problem and broke down, it was dealt with brilliantly and we were soon back on our merry way. Wee picture of my husband driving through a lock, (I was armed with camera and windlass.... being a woman I can multitask superbly 😉). We’re already working out our dates for next year so we can get booked up again. Thank you so much.

LYNEAL TRUST HAS WORLDWIDE APPEAL
Ceila Tasman, age 74, from Perth Western Australia recently came over to visit her family and stayed with her sister Bridget Watts from Wem.
Some of her family had been on the Lyneal Trust Shropshire Lady narrow boat for a day’s outing last year and enjoyed it so much they organised another trip for the whole family.
... When Celia heard about their plans she arranged to fly over to join them for the trip. During the day she said that it had been so well worth making the journey from Australia to join her family on such a relaxing outing with such beautiful scenery in the company of her family. She commented that it was so easy to board the boat with its inbuilt lift and so well fitted out with every facility required for a most enjoyable day.
Trustee, Peter Walters said “It was a great pleasure to join the family on this special occasion and to greet Celia, having made the long journey, to hear how much she enjoyed the facilities that Lyneal Trust provides”.
The increasing popularity of Lyneal Trust, including the two holiday boats, the day boat and residential chalet properties means that we need more volunteers to help run this charity which enables disabled, vulnerable or those recovering from illness of all ages with the opportunity of a day or holiday that would otherwise be impossible.
Peter said, “We are looking for further volunteers to ensure we are able to crew and skipper our boats to meet growing demand”.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please email bookings@lyneal-trust.org.uk or speak to our secretary on 01948 710708 for more details.

Worth sharing a review - thanks Bill Smith
A canal trip for Army Veterans on a great summers day.
The crew were dedicated to ensuring that all needs were catered for, the vessel, cleanliness and facilities were first class and to top it off a great pub lunch at the Narrow Boat Inn.
... Thanks Brian and Peter.

Just a little snippet of news from one of our volunteers:-
Dear Colleagues
I'd like to bring some superb work to your attention.
... Joe Dawes arranged for a group of pupils and their science teacher from the Telford Park School to visit Lyneal and to participate in a short trip on the Shropshire Lady today. I skippered the boat for the occasion which was part of a national STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) promotion.
We were also accompanied by a public relations manager from Veolia who are sponsors of the project and a photographer from the Shropshire Star / Express and Star Group.
This is likely to result in further local publicity for Lyneal Trust in the Star and, perhaps, something advantageous regarding our bin collections. The project itself involved the pupils creating a prototype of an adjustable tiller arm to assist use by people with disabilities. I was extremely impressed with this and would love to see it developed into a usable trial version for use with all of our boats.
I left feeling that we have made some more friends today and would like to congratulate Joe for bringing the whole project together.

Shropshire Lady joins in The Royal Wedding celebrations. Congratulations Duke & Duchess of Sussex from all of us here at Lyneal Trust. And many thanks to Helen Case for the photo :)

Lots of digging being done by our volunteers, as we make further improvements at the Wharf. Here's Frank and Phil lifting the first turf - it's going to be a hot day! The second photo is just 24 hours later - huge progress! Well done the team :)

Another couple of photos of our day out with Derwen College

Marvelous day out with nine Students from Derwen College with three members of Staff. We went to Bridge 42 for lunch. The lift bridge was unusually busy but you can just see some of the students enjoying lunch on the picnic bench. Several passengers had a drive - here's a member of staff having a go - she soon got the hang of it!

A really peaceful place to spend a holiday next to the canal.

If you are heading towards Ellesmere from Lyneal Wharf you will pass Colmere on the left ( a large mere - quite pretty ) and then Blakemere on the right. This must be one of the lovliest meres - have a look at the photos on this page :- https://www.ellesmere.info/page/45/blakem ere.htm

All along the canal you will see little shelters containing boards - similar to this one at our wharf. They are used by the Canal & River Trust to build a dam under nearby bridges. At the narrow part of the bridge you will often see vertical slots extending down into the water - the boards can slide into the slots to make a temporary dam to enable a portion of canal to be drained for repairs or similar.

We had the pleasure of using the Shropshire Lass for our family holiday.

There were 7 of us including Grandad (in a wheelchair) and Grandma. We had a wonderful holiday.

Highly recommended, thanks to all the volunteers that work so hard

This is the second year we have been on the Shropshire Lass II and I think we will be booking for next year the day we get home! The trust is amazing, the boat is fully wheelchair accessible and this is the only way that we can go on the canals. The volunteers do an excellent job making holiday dreams come true for the disabled.

User

Thank you to all the volunteers at the trust. We had an excellent day on the Shropshire Lad. We will definitely be back and booking the new day boat. Thanks once again highly recommended....

Spent a truly memorable day aboard the Shropshire Lady with Brian (Skipper) and Peter. They were so kind to us - an outing of five adults and four young people - as well as being charming and informative. They could not have made us more welcome. The Shropshire Lady is really well equipped with kitchen and WC and plenty of light and space in which to enjoy the gorgeous scenery.
